Minister of Youth and Families
Job Overview
The man selected to be our Minister of Youth & Families will carry out the mission of First Hewitt by leading parents, families, and youth in grades 6-12 to become fully devoted followers of Christ. This position will be responsible for developing a comprehensive ministry plan that will provide creative ways to reach, engage, equip, and disciple parents, families, and students. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for Christ and people. They will also have strong relational skills, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for the local church.
Job Description
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Youth Minister:
- Serve as the Minister to students in 6th-12th grade.
- Develop a youth culture that is grounded in prayer, dedicated to God’s Word, relationally formed, and missionally motivated.
- Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of ministry to 6th-12th graders. This includes ministries on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, mid-week, and special events.
- Serve as the primary leader and visionary for the Youth Ministry Team. This includes working with parents and key adults to establish a strategic ministry plan for the youth.
- Identify, recruit, train, and organize volunteers to use their unique gifts and personalities to shepherd students in all ministry environments.
- Organize and oversee the Sunday morning experience for students. Provide leadership in the selection of curriculum, outreach, and care for students involved in our Sunday Morning Bible Studies.
- Plan and implement Sunday evening discipleship ministry that encourages students to grow in faith while deepening relationships with one another.
- Organize, develop, and lead an effective mid-week gathering for youth. This may include worship, teaching, and assisting with logistics for the Wednesday night study.
- Intentionally find ways to build relationships with students outside of Wednesday or Sunday nights. (This could include campus visits, attending extracurricular events, meeting students for coffee or lunch, anything to build healthy relationships…)
- Create and implement an overall youth evangelism strategy. Intentionally seek ways to share the Gospel with lost students and parents.
- Develop a ministry calendar that coordinates key dates, events, and activities with the official church calendar.
- Prepare and manage the annual Youth Ministry budget.
- Seek to integrate the Youth Ministry into all phases of church life and to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational and supportive of all ministries at First Hewitt.
Family Minister:
- Serve as the primary leader and visionary for First Hewitt’s ministry to families. This includes married couples, single-parent homes, youth, and children.
- In collaboration with our Children’s Ministry, develop a strategic Family Ministry Plan that seeks to equip and encourage parents, provide engaging environments for youth/kids at church, and seeks to reach families in our community.
- Provide leadership and direction for our Young Families and Families Sunday School Classes. This includes oversight of teaching environments, recruiting of leadership, outreach/follow up of guests, and assisting with the assimilation of young adults/families into life of our church.
- Intentionally identify and develop a Family Ministry leadership team to assist with events, activities, and ministries that are relevant to reaching and encouraging families.
- Develop and manage the Families Ministry budget.
- Collaborate with staff in developing discipleship ministries designed to meet the needs of parents and children.
- Intentionally seek to cultivate a culture that brings all generations of our faith family together.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by Senior Pastor.
EDUCATION
Some college or seminary preferred
