Minister to Children

The Minister to Children is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing a vibrant and comprehensive children's ministry. This ministry aims to meet the spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, and social needs of children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as supporting their families and ministry leaders.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans, recruits, resources, trains, and encourages volunteers who work with children and in various children's programs
  • Resources, supports, and provides training and enrichment for parents and families of children
  • Provides pastoral care support for families with children
  • Counsels children and parents about salvation and models an active lifestyle of personal witnessing and ministry while leading and encouraging children to develop these disciplines in their own lives
  • Leads the planning and implementation of all children's programming. This includes Sunday School, weekday discipleship and missions programming, and special events that provide spiritual growth opportunities. As an example, the Minister to Children enlists and works with the Vacation Bible School director(s) in planning and coordinating VBS for children, kindergarten through fifth grade
  • Oversees the security of the Children's Ministry, including background checks on volunteers and employees in the Children's Ministry
  • Works with the Preschool Ministry to support children as they transition to Kindergarten. Likewise, works with the Middle School Ministry to provide an effective transition of 5th graders to middle school
  • Supports the work of the church by working with the other staff and serving in any reasonable capacity in corporate worship times or other church-wide events

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work collaboratively with other ministry teams
  • Maintain and refine job descriptions, expectations, and standards for any volunteer that serves
  • Be available to serve as an on-call minister if needed
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in leading childhood Christian education, discipleship, and ministry is required
  • A Master's Degree in an appropriate degree program preferred from a seminary that is supported by the Southern Baptist Convention or otherwise recognized as doctrinally consistent with historical Southern Baptist beliefs is strongly preferred
