Minister to Students

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Minister to Students is responsible to God and the body of Christ, under the leadership of

the Pastor, for guiding a Christ-centered ministry that reaches, disciples, and equips students

from sixth grade through the transition to college. The goal of the student ministry is to teach

and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and steward the fruit of that endeavor and to partner

with parents in the effort to nurture our students' spiritual growth and prepare them to live as

faithful disciples who love God, love others, and make Him known. (Matthew 28:19–20;

Colossians 1:28–29). The Minister to Students must be firmly rooted in Scripture, grounded in

personal spiritual maturity, and committed to raising up a generation of students who are

likewise centered on God's Word and the Gospel (Psalm 1:1–3; 2 Timothy 3:16–17).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Full agreement with Westmeade's Church Covenant, Mission, and Statement of Faith

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

• Seminary or Bible college training and/or three years of student ministry experience in a

local church setting

• Proven skills in leadership, communication, and spiritual formation (2 Timothy 2:2)

• Deeply rooted in Scripture with a passion for disciple-making and evangelism (Acts 1:8)

• Teachable, and committed to personal spiritual growth (Philippians 2:3–5)

• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and relational skills (Romans 12:4–5)

MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead a student ministry rooted in biblical truth, focused on evangelism and discipleship

that encourages students to follow Jesus wholeheartedly (2 Timothy 4:2; Ephesians 4:12–

13)

• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with students, providing consistent spiritual

support, encouragement, and accountability (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

• Cultivate ongoing partnerships with parents, equipping them to be the primary disciple-

makers in their students' lives (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)

• Seek to resolve conflict and respond to criticism biblically, compassionately, and

humbly, fostering reconciliation between students, parents, volunteers, and ministry

leaders (Matt. 18:15-20)

• Develop and maintain a clear and consistent communication strategy to ensure

students, parents, and volunteers are well-informed about ministry events, discipleship

opportunities, and important updates—utilizing appropriate communication tools.

(Proverbs 15:23; 1 Corinthians 14:33)• Identify, train, and invest in adult leaders who will disciple students and reflect the

character of Christ (Ephesians 4:11–12; 2 Timothy 2:2)

• Actively recruit and equip a team of adult and student volunteers to engage in student

outreach, and be present in students' everyday lives (1 Peter 4:10; Romans 12:11)

• Develop and implement a strategy for student leadership, empowering students to grow

as servant leaders in their homes, schools, and communities (1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew

20:26–28)

• Teach and communicate the Gospel clearly and faithfully in large group, small group,

and one-on-one settings (Romans 1:16; 2 Timothy 2:15)

• Create intentional discipleship environments that nurture spiritual growth, including Bible

studies, mentoring, and peer accountability (Hebrews 10:24–25; Proverbs 27:17)

• Provide regular opportunities for students to engage in local and global missions and

outreach (Acts 1:8; Matthew 5:16)

• Support the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of students through

compassionate, biblical counsel, and shepherd students through the process of

applying scriptural truth to real-life challenges (Galatians 6:2; Proverbs 11:14) (James

1:5)

• Collaborate with other church leaders to align student ministry with the overall mission of

Westmeade Baptist Church (1 Corinthians 12:12–27)

• Faithfully steward the student ministry budget in a way that honors God in cooperation

with the finances of the church (1 Corinthians 4:2; Luke 16:10–11)

• Perform other ministry-related responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor (Hebrews 13:17)
