Music Pastor

Job Overview

The Music Pastor is an ordained minister responsible for assisting the Senior Pastor by overseeing the direction of all musical contributions, primarily through equipping the gathered congregation to sing praise to God on the first day of the week. Additionally, the Music Pastor provides ministerial support as needs arise. Like the Senior Pastor, the Music Pastor serves as an under-shepherd to the local body of believers at Wake Chapel. The Music Pastor may be assigned areas of ministry to administrate or specific ministerial tasks to perform.

Job Description

Essential Music Responsibilities

  • Direct, plan, lead, and teach musical content for worship services that adorn the Gospel
  • Direct the Chancel Choir and Orchestra
  • Direct music for Vacation Bible School and AWANA
  • Oversee the scheduling and incorporation of children's choirs in the worship service
  • Oversee the budget with the Board of Music
  • Assist with purchasing and maintaining audio/visual equipment
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of audio/visual volunteers

Essential Education Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Sunday school demographics of college and career through adult classes
  • Oversee the budget with the Board of Christian Education
  • Cooperate with and enlist the help of the Board of Christian Education where responsibilities overlap
  • Source and acquire Sunday School curricula and library materials as needed
  • Cooperate and consult with the AWANA Commander
  • Cooperate and consult with the Vacation Bible School Director

Essential Ministerial Responsibilities

  • Provide services in the absence of the Senior Pastor, including but not limited to:
  • Oversee and lead worship services
  • Preaching, teaching, counseling, funerals, weddings
  • Receive/return the pastor's calls
  • Represent the pastor at meetings

  • Ability to work at a fast pace and stick to weekly deadlines.
  • Self-starting, adaptive, and detail-oriented.
  • Committed to faithfulness, honesty, accuracy, excellence, and follow-through.
  • Courteous and tactful with staff, membership, and guests.
  • Exercise exceptional judgment in dealing with sensitive or personal issues.
  • Ability to prioritize concerns and handle situations when staff are unavailable.
  • Comfortable with a wide range of individuals and personalities.
  • Ability to work and sympathize with people from all walks of life.
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Commitment to the Church's mission, message, and statement of faith.
  • Technological knowledge of computers and applications.

Education, Experience, and Qualification

  • Meets the qualifications of an elder as set forth in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5 years of professional experience.
  • Knowledge of musical principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of ministerial service, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of managerial principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the following software applications:
  • Microsoft Office
  • Planning Center

Work Environment

  • Time is spent in the church office or among its members, divided between musical and ministerial responsibilities as well as attending to the church's needs as they arise.
  • Full-time (40 hours per week) position.
  • Reports to the Senior Pastor. Is responsible to the body of believers known as Wake Chapel.
