Next Gen Director
Position: Next Gen Minister/Nextgen Ministry Director. Full-time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Concentration of hours to be split as evenly as possible among the various groups of students with a mixture of contact work, ministry programming, and office hours throughout the week.
Purpose: The purpose is to minister to the students of our church from birth to grade 12, and to administer, develop, and implement student ministry programs designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the students, leading them to spiritual commitments and disciplines.
Responsible to: Pastor and Personnel Committee
Advisors: Youth Committee and Children's Committee
Salary Range: 40-45K total package to be dispersed between retirement/housing/benefits at the next gen pastor's discretion.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Pray for the students.
- Conduct yourself in a Christ-like manner, and demonstrate high Biblical standards as you teach students with your own life.
- Establish meaningful personal relationships with the young people in the congregation by investing in their lives, such as attending lunch at the area. schools and attending their extracurricular activities (i.e sporting events, concerts, school plays, and awards ceremonies) at least once a week.
- Establish yourself as a positive role model for students in the community by being a presence on local school campuses through outlets such as attending student led Bible clubs or volunteering at school activities.
- Identify, train, and commission adult leaders within the congregation to serve as committed mentors in all areas of next gen ministry.
- Plan, implement, and attend weekly activities for the students during the school year that include Bible study, worship, fellowship, and fun. The activities need to be relevant and effective in discipling students for leading a life of faith and forging deep Christian friendships.
- Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects and mission trips for students to learn how to live out their faith in helping meet the needs of others.
- Plan and oversee the implementation of fund-raising events to cover the costs of camps and activities.
- Plan, implement, and attend special events such as but not limited to concerts, retreats, disciple now weekends, and lock-ins.
- Plan, organize, and attend student camps and conferences. This currently includes summer camps for elementary and middle/high school students. There will be openness and opportunity to expand this if or as the need arises.
- Coordinate training opportunities for leadership and work alongside the Stanly-Montgomery Association office to promote events.
- Participate in annual student youth ministry training and individual spiritual development.
- Regularly attend the student Sunday school class and teach in a rotation with the volunteer teachers.
- Direct, coordinate, and teach student Bible studies on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, and other special events.
- Oversee and participate in teaching the special program for preK-2nd grade during the sermon on Sunday mornings.
- Prepare a weekly children's sermon that is coordinated with the Pastor's message.
- Create and carefully and transparently monitor expenditures through FBO Youth and Children's budgets using provided software or worksheets.
- Work effectively with parents to foster support of the student ministries, including ongoing communication to provide opportunities for input and feedback
- Be available to students and families for pastoral counseling, and be ready to direct to the appropriate professional as needed.
- Work with children and youth committees to schedule and pursue growth for Student Ministries as an integrated part of the church's larger ministries.
- Work with Pastor and other staff on a weekly basis to share concerns and prayer requests for Student Ministries.
- Maintain regular office hours that allow for church members, students, and staff to be able to easily contact you.
Must Haves:
- Strong teacher of the Bible both in a classroom and a preaching setting.
- Relationally driven.
- Bachelor's degree completed or active progress toward completion.
Nice to Haves:
- Ordained to Gospel ministry.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to be self-motivated.
- Extroverted, people-centered personality.
- Master's of Divinity degree.
- One to two years of direct children and/or student ministry experience.
Success: The person who succeeds in this position will be the one who is able to effectively equip, motivate, and empower the volunteers who are serving alongside them. They need to be able to lead a team and oversee a large team of volunteers. This person will also be actively building relationships across the ministry spectrum.
