Pastor of Community

Job Overview

Emmanuel Anglican is looking for a Pastor of Community who will work alongside our rector. The main emphasis for this role is to help the parish extend the kingdom of God into the world. This role will help our church live out this aspect of our Vision: to be a faithful and fruitful presence in our community and world. This ties into the Anglican Church in North America's heavy emphasis on the local church as the locus of the mission of the Church. In other words, this role will help lead the parish as we are weekly sent back out into the world to do the work He has given us to do, to love and serve Him as faithful witnesses.

Job Description

Under the supervision of Emmanuel's rector, the Pastor of Community is responsible for:

Administration | Sunday setup/teardown; scheduling volunteers; creating and printing weekly liturgies; monitor main email inbox; take on miscellaneous tasks as assigned by rector; attend weekly staff meetings.

Pastoral | Monthly preaching and teaching; expand prayer ministry; help lead Sunday services; create means of parishioners to share stories of the Lord's work.

Life Together | Orchestrate monthly parish feasts and post-service connections; help ideate and create other internal community life opportunities (eg. hiking, day at the sea, Men's breakfast, Women's gatherings, retreats.)

Community | Help lead the church in living out the Gospel before the world. This may be done through Community Conversations, Neighbor Project Grants, participating and leading service to others (eg. Youthcare, develop a warming shelter in winter, participate in Operation Nightwatch). A key driving question for this aspect of the role is: What are the needs of the community, especially as pertains to the overlooked and uncared for by the Church and Society?

Experience & Characteristics The qualified candidate will have demonstrable experience in establishing relationships with those outside the Church. They should also have an innate desire and experience of translating the Gospel to the World. The candidate must have a strong ability to execute ideas and vision as expressed by the rector and supported by the parish council.

As this role carries out the main responsibilities of the diaconate, the ideal candidate will be an ordained deacon in the Anglican Communion or ordainable as a deacon in the Anglican Communion. A seminary degree is strongly preferred along with three years in parish ministry. Additionally, the qualified candidate must have a firm and clear rootedness in the Gospel, joyfully embrace the Anglican ethos, be in agreement with the Jerusalem Declaration, and the Kigali Statement.
