Pastor of Counseling Groups

Job Overview

North Hills Church is seeking a Pastor of Counseling Groups to provide leadership and pastoral care through biblically grounded counseling groups that foster healing, discipleship, and relational support within the church body. This individual will serve as a vital member of the Counseling Leadership Team (CLT), helping shape and shepherd the spiritual growth of individuals and families through classes, forums, and one-on-one ministry.

Pastor of Counseling Groups

1.0 Function

To provide leadership and oversight of all NHC counseling groups to foster healing, discipleship, and relational support within the church body. The Pastor of Counseling Groups must be able to represent with authentic agreement the church's positions and explain both the content and the heart in interactions with the church family and those outside the church membership in all ways required as a result of the ongoing duties of the job.

2.0 Responsibilities

2.1 Leadership Oversight and Development

  • Oversee and develop all counseling groups/classes (i.e., Re|Engage, Re:Generation, Premarital, Parenting, Husbanding, marriage ministry, etc.)
  • Oversee and develop new counseling groups/classes
  • Oversee and develop group ministry leaders and mentors for all groups
  • Co-lead NHC counseling forums
  • Lead Lay Counselor Mentor Groups
  • Serve as a member of the Counseling Leadership Team (CLT)

2.2 Teaching

  • Teach marriage ministry classes
  • Teach in marriage and family counseling groups
  • Teach counseling forums in cooperation with the rest of the CLT
  • Prepare and teach miscellaneous adult education classes (Life , LCTP, Forum, etc.) or discipleship groups
  • Prepare and teach lay counselor training classes in cooperation with the Pastor of Counseling Ministries

2.3 Counseling

  • Provide biblical premarital/marriage and family counsel in various situations to the NHC family
  • Consult with Life Group Leaders, NHC staff, lay counselors, pastors/elders in counseling situations as requested/needed
  • Engage in ongoing continuing education (conferences, classes, certifications, etc.) as needed to remain equipped and current in effectively leading counseling groups

2.4 General Pastoral Ministry

  • Teaching/Preaching
  • Weddings/Funerals
  • Baptisms
  • Miscellaneous

3.0 Accountability

The Pastor of Counseling Groups is accountable to the Pastor of Counseling Ministries and will report on all activities regularly or as requested.

Qualifications:

– A strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ – Clear alignment with the doctrine, mission, and values of North Hills Church – Experience in counseling ministry and counseling group leadership within a local church context – Formal counseling training (i.e., CCEF, ABC) preferred – Ability to teach, lead, and shepherd others with biblical clarity and pastoral warmth – Demonstrated effectiveness in mentoring leaders and facilitating healing and discipleship environments
