Job Overview

The Pastor of Family Ministry is responsible for oversight and leadership of Family Ministry at The

Journey West County, which includes Journey Kids and Journey Students. The Pastor's aim is to

cultivate the gospel in the next generation and engage families through age-appropriate, gospel-cen-

tered discipleship, while equipping and empowering parents as the primary spiritual influence in their

child's spiritual development.

This role will be responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive ministry plan for

spiritual formation of families with children ages birth through senior high students.

Qualifications:

  • Fulfills The Journey's membership requirements as outlined in the membership covenant
  • Fulfills the character qualifications and duties of deacons as taught in Scripture (1 Tim 3:8-13)
  • Ability to teach children/students about God and His ways in an age-appropriate fashion
  • Ability to equip and counsel parents to train their children to be disciples of Jesus
  • Ability to train and lead volunteer teachers and classroom assistants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education, secondary education, Christian education or related field pre-
  • ferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in a leadership position (within a family ministry is preferred)
  • Background check required

Duties & Responsibilities:

Family Ministry:

  • Provide pastoral leadership, strategic direction, and missional alignment within the Family
  • Ministry teams
  • Lead the development and implementation of a ministry plan in collaboration with the Family Ministry staff teams (Journey Kids and Journey Students) on all aspects of ministry, including mission, vision, curriculum, scope and sequence of learning, implementation of training and budget
  • Identify, equip, delegate, coach and disciple staff and lay leaders within the Family Ministry teams
  • Implement and maintain the overarching discipleship pathway for children and students; including a scope and sequence for parents
  • Align children & student ministries with the principles and practices of the church's overall Discipleship Pathway
  • Develop a plan for equipping and training parents as the primary disciple-makers for their children
  • Oversee the Sunday morning and midweek gatherings for children and students to ensure smooth and efficient operations
  • Teach kids/students a minimum of once a month as part of effective coaching to staff/volunteers
  • Ensure a safe environment for the staff and participants of Journey Kids and Journey Students by creating, implementing, enforcing, and maintaining safety protocols, processes, and guidelines for Journey Kids and Journey Students
  • Disciple and oversee the spiritual growth of the leaders within Journey Kids and Journey Students
  • Provide oversight and support as needed to staff who are leading events within the Family Ministry team, which may include camps, retreats, VBS, and/or other student mission trips
  • Establish, implement, and oversee a comprehensive curriculum (interface) between all areas of Family Ministry that supports and reinforces The Journey's discipleship pathway
  • Manage the budgets for the family ministry team
  • Work alongside the Communications Team to clearly communicate mission, vision, news, events, and training opportunities with volunteers, students, and parents to build relationships and help them follow Jesus

Additional Pastoral Responsibilities:

  • Assist in helping to care for the congregational needs of the church, especially when family care issues arise (e.g. birth, adoption, infertility, sickness)
  • Help with church wide events to support the mission and vision of the church
  • Occasional preaching, typically 1-2 times/year
  • Provide leadership in service through announcements, communion introduction, and availability during service response time.

Status: Full-Time, Exempt, Ministerial

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday

Hours: 40-45 hours/week
