Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The Pastor of Prayer is responsible for building and developing strategies designed to execute the overall vision for prayer ministry at Redeemer Kansas City. This includes specific leadership over the prayer room and initiatives designed to build, strengthen, and steward a culture of prayer as a central element of Redeemer's mission. The role also allows for a possible emphasis in either Worship or Spiritual Formation, depending on the candidate's skills, experience, and gifting.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Prayer will develop and execute ministry objectives established by the Elders and Executive Team, including:

Prayer Room Development & Leadership

• Work with the Executive Team to build a 3-5 year launch strategy for the prayer room.

• Recruit, train, and develop leaders to facilitate prayer meetings.

• Partner with the Lead Pastor to oversee and sustain a healthy culture.

• Work with the Worship Pastor to integrate worship leaders into prayer meetings.

• Oversee scheduling of prayer meetings, including leader assignments, worship coordination, and technical needs.

Sunday Service Prayer Team

Culture & Leadership:

• Define and steward the culture of the Sunday Service Prayer Team in collaboration with the Lead Pastor and Worship Pastor.

• Host regular training events for prayer ministers and captains.

Administration:

• Establish and maintain clear roles for prayer ministers and captains.

• Recruit and train volunteers for the Sunday Service Prayer Team.

• Provide ongoing development for team members to grow in their ability to minister effectively.

General: Fulfill responsibilities of a staff member at Redeemer Kansas City, adhering to the Redeemer Staff Covenant.

POTENTIAL EMPHASES:

The Director of Prayer role offers two potential paths based on the candidate's unique skills and calling: Worship or Spiritual Formation

Path #1: Worship Focus

In addition to the core responsibilities, this track emphasizes the integration of prayer and worship as a central expression of Redeemer's ministry. The candidate should:

• Have 3-5 years of worship leading experience, preferably in a Spirit-led worship environment.

• Have a strong theological understanding of the role of prayer and worship in the local church.

• Develop, train, and mentor worship leaders, singers, and musicians.

• Teach and shape church culture in Spirit-led worship and prayer through song.

Path #2: Spiritual Formation Focus

This track emphasizes on integrating prayer and spiritual formation across the church body. The candidate should:

• Have 2-3 years of pastoral experience.

• Possess a vision to incorporate Redeemer's prayer room with a broader expression of Spiritual Formation within the life of our church.

• Be experienced in teaching, content development, and discipleship (Sunday School classes, writing, developing courses).

• Full-time role (40+ hours per week)
