Job Overview
Grace Point Evangelical Free Church is a multi-generational church and part of The Evangelical Free Church of America in Adrian, MI built on solid biblical preaching and intentional relationships. The church is located in between Adrian and Tecumseh, Michigan. The church’s vision is to be a church of disciples, making disciples through intentional relationships. The church is congregationally led, through the Elder Board, of which each of the Pastors are a part. Pastor Jeff Barbieri accepted the call to serve as Lead Pastor in 2016 after serving as the Administrative Pastor for three years. Grace Point EFC offers two identical modern worship services at 9:00AM & 10:45AM on Sunday mornings. The church averages more than 475 in attendance between worship and kids ministry on Sunday morning. They are meeting in-person weekly and livestreaming on both Facebook and Youtube, which connects weekly with over 125 people on average.
The church is seeking a Pastor of Student Ministries to join the team! This candidate will excel in large group teaching and volunteer development. They are looking for a candidate who can relate to students, communicate well to parents, and engage the student body in ministry. Grace Point EFC is well-equipped for future ministry with a high-capacity volunteer team and their own student ministry building called Common Ground (CG). CG is equipped with a large group space, classroom, recreation activities (pool table, foosball, ping pong, etc), cafe, live music, outdoor basketball court, sand volleyball, nine square, gathering space, campfire, and more!
The Pastor of Student Ministries will lead and guide Grace Point’s Student Ministry to middle and high school students. This individual will foster an environment where, through intentional relationships, students are discipled and encouraged. This includes those interested in knowing God and developing a relationship with Him as you disciple and encourage them through the study of the Bible, Life Groups, events, retreats, and other opportunities for intentional relationship building. It also includes intentional relationships with those who do not have a relationship with God or a church congregation.
The Pastor of Student Ministries should also understand and follow God’s desires for leadership in the Church. He must actively strive to develop the character described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. They must also understand and follow God’s desire for leadership in the church as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and be willing to serve and materially contribute within a team leadership structure. As with all those called by God into ministry, this job can only be accomplished through reliance on the Holy Spirit, the study of the Word, and total dependence on God through prayer. The Pastor of Student Ministries will work closely with the Lead Pastor, Administrative Pastor, and the Elder board.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for leading the mission of making and growing student disciples of Jesus through intentional relationships.
- Recruit, oversee, and train a team of adult Student Ministry Team leaders as they learn to disciple and invest in student’s lives.
- Develop and plan for regular and consistent Student Ministry events.
- Coordinate with the Children’s Ministry to ensure a smooth transition for children and their parents into the Student Ministry, organizing events to facilitate this transition. This includes, but is not limited to, engaging at 1-2 Children’s Ministry events per year and planning 1-2 yearly student/parent events per year.
- Spend regular time mentoring students individually and in small groups, nurturing relationships and fostering leadership development.
- Design/recommend, and oversee curriculum selection for all Student Ministry programs and events.
- Model and encourage intentional relationship building by equipping volunteers to engage with students outside formal ministry settings.
- Develop intentional relationships with parent(s) to partner with them as the primary disciplers of their middle and high school child(ren).
- Reach out to unchurched students through various outreach efforts and interact with parents and students during Sunday services.
- Establish annual goals and objectives for the Student Ministry in cooperation with the Student Ministry team and Administrative Pastor and alignment with the church’s stated vision, mission, and core values.
- Maintain frequent communication with the church body as a whole, but particularly with the parents of students. Provide training and resources for parents as needed. This training and resources could include but are not limited to improving communication with your child(ren), studying the Bible with your child(ren), and parenting in a tech-driven world.
- Display a Christ-like approach and lifestyle, and pray regularly for young people in the church and community.
- Have and continue to develop a proficient understanding of young people’s challenges and a Christ-like response to such challenges.
- If not already established, pursue the establishment of a long-term mentoring relationship for your personal spiritual and emotional growth as a leader and individual.
- Manage the annual budget for the Student Ministry, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support ministry objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrate a passionate, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced through the fruit of the Spirit, a vibrant prayer life, a heart for lost people, and a love of God’s Word.
- Demonstrate the ability to study, interpret, and practically apply God’s word.
- Demonstrate the understanding or willingness to learn when to guide students with counseling needs and when to refer to a professional counselor.
- Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of students.
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to lead by example.
- Willingness to adapt to the flexible time demands of full-time ministry.
- Develop and maintain a commitment to sustained excellence and quality.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and develop God’s people so that they can discover and use their God-given gifts.
- Demonstrate a teachable spirit, a willingness to seek the counsel of others when needed, and a submission to authority.
- Experience
- 2-5 years of relative student ministry experience preferred.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in theology, biblical studies, or Student Ministry.
