The role of Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care is vital to the vision and mission of our church. Obedient Worship and Generational Unity are two of our core values. The Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care will help our church continue to accomplish our mission and stay true to our core values by ensuring that our corporate worship gatherings are in accordance with Scripture and that all generations of our church family are cared for during their times of need.

The Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care will use 60-70% of his time to work with the Senior Pastor and other designated persons to prepare and lead music for all of our corporate gatherings. This person will embrace a blended worship style that demonstrates a proficiency in leading a choir, praise team, and band who lead our church family in singing great hymns from the past and theologically rich songs from the present. This person will also oversee all the other worship & media related ministries of the church in consultation with the Senior Pastor.

He will spend 20-30% of his time overseeing and coordinating our care ministries such as hospital and homebound visitation, visitation for bereaved families, and additional care ministries as the need arises.

The candidate should possess strong foundational knowledge of the Bible and a willingness to teach God's Word. This person should affirm a clear call to serve in the local church, be committed to working as a part of the team, and possess a pastor's heart of genuine concern and compassion for people.

Ministry Objective

The role of Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care is vital to the vision and mission of our church. If we are to continue growing together as a Christ-centered family that loves God and loves others, we must prioritize our corporate worship gatherings and the care of our church family. Obedient Worship and Generational Unity are two of our core values. The Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care will help our church continue to accomplish our mission and stay true to our core values by ensuring that our corporate worship gatherings are in accordance with Scripture and that all generations of our church family are cared for during their times of need.

The Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care will work with the Senior Pastor and other designated persons to prepare and lead music for all of our corporate gatherings. This person will also oversee all the other worship & media related ministries of the church in consultation with the Senior Pastor. He will also be responsible for the oversight and coordination of our care ministries.

Spiritual Qualifications

The Pastor of Worship and Pastoral Care must meet the qualifications put forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9

He must:

  • Be a man of daily Bible study
  • Be a man committed to personal/family purity
  • Be a man of evangelism and personal witnessing
  • Be a man of character and integrity
  • Be a man of maturity
  • Have a deep love for God and people
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the Scriptures
  • Have a heart for discipleship/relational ministry
  • Possess the ability to teach God's Word

Personal Characteristics, Education, & Experience

  • Possess strong foundational knowledge of the Bible.
  • Affirm a clear call to serve in the local church and a commitment to the varied expressions of the church's ministry.
  • Be committed to working as a part of the team.
  • A pastor's heart of genuine concern and compassion for people.
  • A willingness to participate in hospital visitation and the visitation of our members that are homebound or in a long-term care facility.
  • A shepherd of the team who prefers to develop leaders and multiply his ministry.
  • A self-motivated individual that can balance the pursuit of vision with the day-to-day demands of pastoral ministry.
  • The proven ability to think strategically and work with various ministry models, processes, and paradigms.
  • Agree with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and be in the general agreement with the ministry philosophy, goals and direction of the church.
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills combined with an exceptional relational and networking ability.
  • The proven ability to identify, equip, mobilize and lead volunteers.
  • The proven ability to manage people, budgets, short and long-range planning, and implement a plan in church environments.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of sound, video, & lighting.
  • Proficiency in Propresenter, Adobe Software programs, Planning Center, and Google Workspace is preferred.

Core Values of WBC's Worship Ministry

  • Theological Content: The lyrical content of the musical selections must reflect truth from Scripture first and foremost, as corporate singing is intended to teach the church sound doctrine in the lyrical content.
  • Generational Music: The makeup of our congregation is multi-generational, and the musical choices are made as a celebration of the God-given variety of our people, not just aiming to one demographic. Therefore, we embrace a blended worship style that incorporates the choir, praise team, and band who lead our church family in singing great hymns from the past and theologically rich songs from the present.
  • Corporate Praise: The aim of our corporate worship gatherings is for all the church to be worshiping our great God. The main vocal instrument on a Sunday is the voice of our congregation, therefore our goal is to encourage and feature rather than overwhelm the voice of God's people singing his praises.

Responsibilities- Worship & Media (60-70%)

  1. To work with the Senior Pastor and others to plan and lead the worship music whenever the church gathers for public worship.
  2. To help the church develop multiple platforms of music to be used in worship. This would include choirs, bands, instrumentalists, soloists, etc. Others may be designated to lead in these various areas as necessary.
  3. To lead the Worship Ministry to prepare for worship through prayer, biblical reflection, and pursuit of God as a vital part of preparing for worship. Leading those who lead worship to engage in worshipful planning so that we will be prepared to come before the Lord in worship of His person, truth, and glory.
  4. To stay aware of developments in church music and worship through seminars, conferences, etc., and with the help and direction of the Pastor and other music leaders seek to incorporate what will aid Whitefield in her efforts to praise and worship the Lord.
  5. To work with the Nominating Committee to enlist leaders for the various worship ministry efforts of the church.
  6. To supervise, direct, and help the various music ministries of the church. To coordinate the work of the Worship Ministry with other staff and be involved in regular staff meetings.
  7. To plan and oversee periodic concerts and special events (Easter & Christmas Musical)
  8. To oversee the budgets for the Worship, Audio Visual Lighting (AVL), and Media Ministries.
  9. To oversee the AVL and Media teams.
  • Oversee WBC Communications Team, which is responsible for graphic design (social media content, sermon graphics, pre-service slides, etc.) and management of church's social media platforms
  • Oversee AVL set up for sanctuary, Multi Purpose Room (MPR), and special events (including Freedom Celebration)
  • Oversee AVL & Livestream equipment maintenance and new AVL installation
  • Manage the church's website (www.whitefieldbc.com)
  1. To make recommendations to the Pastor and Stewardship Committee regarding needed upgrades to our facilities and equipment as it touches upon the Worship & Media Ministries of the church.
  2. To be involved in the planning and preparation of music for weddings and funerals as needed. He also will be expected to participate in these events as requested.

Responsibilities- Pastoral Care (20-30%)

  1. Assist the church in maintaining an effective ministry of pastoral care by monitoring and reviewing current systems and making suggestions and implementing improvements as necessary.
  2. Coordinate with our current care teams to ensure that our homebound and nursing home members are cared for on a regular basis.
  3. Coordinate efforts in planning and leading funerals as needed.
  4. Coordinate the efforts of the pastoral staff in hospital visitation and ministry to bereaved members.
  5. Establish new ministries, if needed, to care for members who are suffering with grief, divorce, addiction, etc.

Responsibilities- Team Responsibilities (10%)

  1. Other duties as assigned, including General Expectations for Ministerial Staff.
  2. Available to preach on Sunday morning, as needed.
  3. Work as needed with the Nominating Committee, Personnel Committee, and other committees as required.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
