Pastoral Job Description

Primary function—To provide leadership that equips the church to carry out its five functions of: evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship, as it fulfills the Great Commission

General Description:

The Senior Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church. He/she is responsible to the Lord and the church to primarily proclaim the gospel and teach the bible. He/she is to be engaged in pastoral care, providing supervisory and administrative leadership in all areas of congregational care including paid and volunteer staff.

Responsibilities:

Leading:

· Lead the church in an effective evangelism program and in a caring ministry for those in the church and the community.

· Lead an effective program of visiting sick and shut-in members and prospects

· Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating all church programs and ministries in conjunction with Deacon and Trustee Boards.

· Provide leadership and vision for the church. Direct plans for ministry and church growth.

Proclaiming:

· Plan/ Prepare for/ Lead the worship services of the church including, but not limited to delivery of the sermon

· Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God's Word and spiritual counseling

· Demonstrate a passion, ability, and willingness to share Christ and disciple others in their walk with the Lord

Ministering:

· Conduct counseling sessions.

· Conduct funerals and weddings as opportunities arise and in accordance with biblical and church guidelines

· Demonstrate an obvious love for the fellowship of the local church.

· Develop and maintaining strong relationships with all church members through regular visitations, counseling, and support.

· Actively engage the young adults and young families of our community

Administering:

· Work with deacons, board of trustees, church officers, and committees/auxiliaries as they perform their assigned responsibilities

· Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.

· Work with various standing and special committees in accomplishing their respective duties.

Desired biblical qualities and skills:

· Meets qualifications of teacher/elder: 1 Tim 3:1 7, Titus1:5 9, 1 Peter 5:1 4

· Demonstrates spiritually maturity

· Ordained by a church body with a strong commitment to the Baptist faith

· A good communicator (written and spoken) with good people skills

· Technologically proficient

· Demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry (including preaching, counseling, and leadership)

· Demonstrated ability to foster church growth
