Pastoral Residency
Job Overview
Overview Trinity Baptist Church of Franklin, TN believes that God has called the local church to a disciple-making mission which includes training leaders for the future (2 Tim. 2:2). Because of this we are providing a one-year pastoral residency for a seminary student or one who has ministry aspirations to be educated in the context of the local church. Our church has a rich history of developing pastoral residents and either sending them out or incorporating them into the ministry long-term.
Job Description
Objectives 1. To Provide Exposure to a Wide Range of Pastoral Responsibilities A residency is a great opportunity to gain experience in areas of weakness or ignorance. Rather than serving with only one age group (adults, students, or children) or one emphasis (preaching, teaching, music, counseling, leadership, or administration) we desire to give our residents a sampling of the broader scope of pastoral ministry.
2. To Grow in Specific Areas of Ministry Interest We also believe God gifts individuals in specific ways so that they excel and find greater joys in certain areas of ministry. Rather than creating a job description first and picking a resident for the position second, we want to pick the resident and tailor-make the position to the individual's giftings and desires. Each week we will have opportunities for constructive criticism so that the resident can refine their gifts.
3. Opportunities for One-on-One Discipling The residency will provide both formal and informal discipleship. The resident will have exposure to the pastors through dinners in homes, car rides, and conversations. There will also be intentionality in scheduling a monthly time for a discipleship meeting with the preaching pastor.
4. Ministry and Theological Education (if applicable) The combination of seminary and church responsibilities is strategic. Seminaries have expertise in training students, but no training is complete if it is divorced from the local church. Furthermore, the church can provide a better education than a seminary in several areas of ministry. Therefore, we believe putting the church and the seminary together is a powerful combination.
5. To Grow in Christlikeness As the intern develops practical ministry skills, we will also focus on Christlikeness and character. We hope that our resident loves God more as a result of the time in our church.
Finances & Lodging The compensation package will be $20,000-30,000 per year. This will be determined by factors such as experience, life situation, and schooling plans. Housing in the home of a church family may be made available.
Weekly Structure Residents will work 3-4 office days in addition to Sundays. There may be an option for part- time work in addition to the residency. Office days will include the following activities: Weekly discipleship meetings with Trinity's elders/leaders. One-on-one discipleship for church members Preparation for teaching/leadership Administrative responsibilities Accompanying the pastors on visits and meetings Monthly Days of Solitude and Prayer
