Pastoral Resident

Job Overview

The Pastoral Residency program is a two or three year, postgraduate ministry training program for men who are planning on pursuing full time pastoral ministry. This position will involve hands-on ministry training and pastoral mentorship.

 

This Resident will be overseeing our Student Ministry as he prepares for further ministry.

Successful applicants will be gifted and motivated men who sense a call to serve in vocational Christian service.  They will meet the qualifications outlined for church eldership as outlined in the New Testament: 1 Timothy 3:1-7Titus 1: 7-9.

Job Description

Below are the qualifications:

  • Agree with The Grove Church’s Membership Covenant and Statement of Faith and commit to exhibit a lifestyle that is consistent with the same
  • High school diploma required
  • Pursuing theological education
  • Comprehensive understanding of the gospel
  • Competent to minister to the body of Christ
  • Basic proficiency in written communication
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and work on a team

Grove Students (target: 70% of time allocation)

  • Leads and coordinates weekly youth group meeting (currently on Wednesday evenings) and small group bible studies designed for discipleship, building relationships, fellowship, and outreach to non-believers
  • Plans regular large group events during the year
  • Participates in the assimilation of new youth into the church (i.e. informal greeting on Sunday morning, follow-up letters, lunches, etc.).
  • Pursues relationships with our middle and high school students outside of church (i.e. breakfasts, lunch, attending events, etc.)
  • Coordinates and participates in retreats and trips throughout the year, including the summer.
  • Recruits, supervises, and trains volunteers who work with youth.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and the wider church
  • Encourages and helps to facilitate the youth’s participation in church life, to include corporate worship as well as service and missions projects

Ministry Training (target: 30% of time allocation)

  • Completes reading and writing projects as assigned by Lead Pastor
  • Shadow Lead Pastor with opportunities to debrief afterwards observations and questions (counseling, membership interviews, meetings, etc.)
  • Opportunity for further education (seminary, certificates, other training)
  • Complete any special projects as assigned by the Lead Pastor
