Job Overview
The Evangelical Congregational Church of Tyngsboro is ready for the plans the Lord has in store for his church! There is recent activity, anticipation, and excitement as we prepare for a new pastor to lead us.
A survey of the congregation has been helpful in identifying what the majority are looking for in our next leader. There were a few surprises in the top answers people provided indicating that we are aware of what we are looking for.
First and foremost, the ECCT is searching for a pastor who is strong with biblical knowledge and able to provide spiritual nourishment dynamically and accurately through their sermons and teaching. He or she will align with the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (4 C’S) doctrine and statement of faith.
Our next pastor must be a strong leader with a preferrable with some past leadership experience who has a mission, a purpose, and a passionate vision within them that can mobilize us forward. They must be focused on the future always, prayerfully seeking the Lord’s direction, encouraging us to do the same as we embrace new opportunities and possibilities for achieving the mission of the church: The Evangelical Congregational Church of Tyngsboro exists to honor and glorify God by making and growing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
This individual will be a unifier assisting us in necessary change to reach our goals.
They will be of good moral character, approachable and supportive and will lead a team-based approach and an outward focus.
If they are married, they should, with the church’s support, prioritize and always be available for their family responsibilities.
Other priorities important to our church would include availability for counseling and hospital visits and passion for reaching young people and families helping the church to grow.
And finally, this individual will need to provide major input regarding changes to our organizational structure and revisions to our Constitution and By-laws. They will also be expected to help with evangelism and discipleship development.
It is important for our next pastor to know that we will not micromanage but will hold he or she accountable for results. Winning for the Lord are the results we seek. Job Description
- Maintains a vital and wholesome personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer.
- Maintains proper priorities at home with his wife and children.
- Oversee the spiritual welfare and development of the Church.
- Oversees, along with Deacons, all church discipline matters and the management of conflict issues in the church.
- Preach the Gospel and teach the Scriptures.
- See that the ordinances are administered.
- Assure all religious instruction adheres to Scripture.
- Be an ex officio voting member of all boards and committees.
- Plan and conduct worship services, developing sermons, planning with music leadership and leads in the observance of ordinances.
- Encourages the congregation via effective programs to fulfill the Great Commission
- Seeks to effectively witness, and encourage the congregation to witness, to the lost for salvation through Jesus Christ.
- Engages is pastoral care such as ministering to and visiting members in their homes, nursing care facilities, or hospitals. Conducts counseling sessions, performs wedding ceremonies, and conducts funeral services.
- Works with the Administrative Council, Deacons and other key leadership to carry out the mission and purpose of the church.
- Cooperates with associational, state, local, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern.
- Communicates with the congregation through articles or announcements, written and spoken using church newsletter, bulletins, and worship services.
- Adheres to the Church Bylaws and Policies and Procedures adopted by the church.
- Mentor the Associate Pastor, or Pastoral Intern, in all areas of Pastoral Ministry.
- The Pastor is NOT responsible for fulfilling all duties within the church, but for seeing these duties are effectively carried out and done properly.
