Role Summary: The Senior Pastor/CEO serves as the spiritual leader, primary visionary, and executive leader of the church. This individual is responsible for providing preaching, pastoral care, strategic leadership, and operational oversight to ensure the church fulfills its mission, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities: Executive and Administrative Leadership: ● Serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) by overseeing and coordinating all ministerial and non-ministerial staff, including pastors, ministry leaders, operations staff, and administrative personnel. ● Manage and develop church infrastructure, systems, and operational procedures to ensure ministry effectiveness and organizational health. ● Meet regularly with the church diaconate, lay leadership, and committees to coordinate governance, planning, and ministry. ● Operate within the church's bylaws, ensuring that all decisions and actions align with already established policies. ● Participate as an active member of the FOFMBC Ministry Team ● Attend meetings necessary for the accomplishment of team-led ministry. Spiritual Leadership: ● Prepare and deliver Christ-centered, Bible-based sermons for Sunday, Midweek services/ gatherings, and other annual church services/functions. ● Collaborate with ministerial staff and worship teams to plan cohesive, Spirit-led worship services. ● Prepare and lead Bible studies and teachings that are both biblically sound and relevant to the congregation. ● Develop, communicate, and implement the church's mission, vision, and spiritual direction. ● Preside over baptism in accordance with Baptist doctrine and church policy. Pastoral Care: ● Provide pastoral care, spiritual counseling, and benevolence assistance to congregation members in partnership with ministerial staff and lay leadership. ● Visit members in hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences to offer encouragement, prayer, and pastoral support. ● Promote and nurture a sense of spiritual community within the church and foster relationships with local Baptist communities and faith-based organizations to strengthen the church's spiritual network. Visionary and Directional Leadership: ● Take initiative in providing vision, leadership, and creative ministry solutions for the church and its leaders. ● Ensure that all church ministries and programs are aligned with the church's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Financial and Stewardship Leadership (Chief Financial Officer Responsibilities): ● Develop, oversee, and manage the church's annual budget in collaboration with finance staff/Trustee Board and leadership. ● Provide leadership for capital campaigns, special projects, large gifts, reserved funds, loans, and designated accounts. ● Work closely with bookkeepers and finance personnel to ensure the maintenance of accurate financial policies and procedures. Ministry Oversight and Leadership Development: ● Recruit, train, empower, and care for volunteers and ministry leaders. ● Maintain very strong organizational skills for growing, mobilizing, and sustaining large and complex ministry systems. ● Collaborate with staff and volunteers to create a positive, unified ministry environment. Leadership & Ministry Skills: ● Dynamic, passionate, and engaging communicator with exceptional preaching and public speaking skills. ● Effective strategic thinker and visionary leader, capable of leading through growth, change, and organizational complexity. ● Strong executive leadership and administrative skills, including team management, systems oversight, and budgetary responsibility. ● High emotional intelligence, collaborative leadership style, and ability to empower and mobilize teams.
Position Qualifications:
Qualifications: Education & Professional Qualifications: ● A Master's Degree in Theology, Ministry, or a related field is required (Master of Divinity preferred) from a recognized evangelical seminary. A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with 5 years of experience may also be considered.* ● Ordained minister, or willing and eligible to pursue ordination upon hire. ● Minimum of 5 years of pastoral ministry experience, including leadership in a multi-staff environment and experience in churches with attendance of 400–1,000+. ● Proven leadership experience in preaching, vision casting, staff supervision, organizational development, and operational oversight. Spiritual & Character Qualifications: ● Demonstrates a mature, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and an evident passion for the Gospel and love for the Church. ● Exhibits the biblical qualifications of an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-3. ● Possesses a stable, biblically-centered personal life, including a healthy marriage and family life (if applicable). ● Wholeheartedly supports the church's mission, vision, values, and statement of faith. ● Self-motivated, emotionally intelligent, teachable, and committed to unity and collaboration within the church staff and congregation.
Additional Requirements: ● Must pass all applicable background checks (criminal, child abuse history, FBI clearance where required). ● Active participant in the life of the church and supportive of its broader ministries and events. ● U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States. Reporting Structure: The Senior Pastor/CEO will report directly to the Board of Directors. Direct Reports to the Senior Pastor/CEO include: ● Ministerial Staff (Associate Pastors, Youth Pastor, Worship Leader, etc.) ● Non-ministerial Staff (Administrative staff, Operations staff, Communications Director, etc.) ● Volunteer Ministry Leaders (Men's Ministry, Women's Ministry, Outreach, Young Adults, etc.) The Senior Pastor/CEO collaborates regularly with: ● Deacon Board — for spiritual care, congregational support, and pastoral initiatives. ● Trustee Board — for financial oversight, contracts, and resource management. ● Board of Directors — for strategic direction, operational policy, and church governance. The Senior Pastor/CEO is ultimately accountable to the congregation for the spiritual and operational health of the church.
