The First Baptist Church, Adel, GA is searching for their next Senior Pastor. This is a full-time position. First Baptist Church worship attendance is currently averaging 110 in Sunday services. Pastor would be responsible for the Sunday morning service and a Wednesday evening service. Sunday School is averaging 80 in attendance each week. The Sunday service is blended with a mix of contemporary and traditional hymns. Other current staff includes a full-time Minister of Music and a part-time (interim) Youth Director. Senior Pastor Job Description Position Purpose: The Senior Pastor is a full-time position which provides spiritual and pastoral leadership to the membership of First Baptist Church. The Senior Pastor will serve as the chief administrator of the congregation so that it might fulfill its mission and purpose. The Senior Pastor will preach, teach, administer the ordinances (The Lord's Supper and Baptism), and give primary leadership in the ministries of the church. In addition, he will supervise all other staff members. Responsibilities: The following constitute the major responsibilities of the Senior Pastor:
I. Worship: 1. To regularly preach and teach the Word of God and administer the ordinances to the congregation. 2. Plan and orchestrate all aspects of worship in close coordination with the associate pastor of worship. To encourage the worship leadership to develop a music program for all ages and to integrate music into worship and other areas of the congregation. 3. Actively involved with leading and coordinating prayer and prayer meetings. 4. Primary preaching pastor for all worship services. 5. Will develop the preaching schedule and secure a pulpit supply for scheduled absences. 6. To officiate at special services such as weddings, funerals, or other services as call upon and for which his schedule may allow.
II. Administration: 1. Plan overall direction of the church with staff and Church Leadership, focusing on having a long-range plan for spiritual and ministerial objectives for 3, 5 and 10 years. 2. To oversee the administration and management of all areas of the congregation's ministry in consultation with the Deacons, committees and staff. Meet as often as necessary with staff to: 3. Advise staff members for Music and Worship and Youth Ministry acting as their mentor. 4. Discuss and evaluate ministries and their progress. 5. Ensure that staff is working together to reach the vision plan. 6. Spearhead the growth of the staff. 7. To support and assist staff who have primary responsibility in the ministries of education, youth, pastoral care, fellowship and older adults. 8. To supervise, manage and evaluate, seeking input and support from the Personnel Committee and Deacons, the staff of the congregation. To be consulted in the screening and hiring of non-ordained staff and to participate in the calling of ordained staff. 9. To build a sense of teamwork among church staff and hold regular staff meetings to coordinate the ministries of the church and facilitate communication. 10. To serve as the staff representative to the following: Southern Baptist Convention, Georgia Baptist Convention and the Valdosta Baptist Association.
III. Stewardship: 1. To work with the Sunday School and Budget and Finance Committee to promote, educate, and advocate responsible biblical stewardship in the congregation. 2. To assist the Budget and Finance Committee with financial matters of the congregation. 3. To oversee and promote congregational benevolence and mission through ongoing local and foreign missions support of the association and Cooperative Program and by meeting community needs as they arise.
IV. Outreach/Visitation: 1. To work with the Sunday School to implement ministries that reach out to the un- churched, in-actives, and new residents of our community with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 2. To direct the assimilation of new members into the life of the congregation in conjunction with the committees and organizations of the congregation. 3. To encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work with an emphasis on welcoming others to participate in the mission work of Christ. 4. Responsible for ensuring opportunities for outreach are met. This will include visits by himself, as well as delegating to staff and deacons. However, these opportunities are not limited to hospitals, nursing homes, shut-ins, new attendees, etc.
V. General Pastoral Responsibilities: 1. To provide pastoral care by assisting the staff, committees, and member caregivers through visitation, counseling, and prayer. 2. To make appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly respond to crisis situations which arise in the congregation. 3. To assist in teaching children, youth, and adults in the Christian education program of the congregation as his schedule may permit.
VI. Working Conditions: The position of Senior Pastor requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The Pastor must be accessible to members of the congregation and for regular communication with members of the church staff as his schedule may allow. He is expected to maintain regular office hours, preferably six (6) hours per day, Monday through Thursday.
VII. Qualification for the Senior Pastor: 1. The Senior Pastor shall be a born-again believer who is called to pastor by the Holy Spirit to both teach and preach the Word of God. 2. Meets all Biblical qualifications of the role of Senior Pastor as they are broadly defined in the books of First Timothy and Titus. 3. Adheres to the First Baptist Church Constitution and By-Laws, Policies and Procedures and has a working knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order. 4. Possesses a consistent philosophy of ministry with First Baptist Church. 5. Must be an experienced pastor, with a previous successful pastoral ministry experience. 6. Prefer that he is married. 7. Is trained in scripture and ordained. 8. Education: It is preferable he is a graduate of a Baptist seminary with a minimum of a Bachelor of Divinity or Bachelor of Theology degree. 9. Is open-minded to the blend of music ministry for worship. 10. Is visionary and self-motivated. 11. Has a genuine loving nature and his actions motivate the congregation to love him. 12. Possesses an authentic Christian walk that serves as a good role model. 13. Has a proven record of working well with others and is committed to a team approach to ministry. 14. Committed to excellence in ministry and programming with a diverse range of ages and cultural backgrounds. 15. Passion for people and reaching the lost for Christ. 16. Teachable spirit and a learner. 17. Exemplifies the humility and servant attitude of Christ. 18. Heart for empowering the ministry potential of associates and lay workers. 19. Provides effective and sound Christian counseling. 20. Serves as an ex-officio member of major church committees and ministries. 21. Recognizes various levels of computer literacy within the congregation and ensures appropriate means of communication when contacting church members and prospects. (Some prefer phone calls or personal visits.) 22. Works closely with new converts, providing instruction and expectations as they assume their new role. 23. Recognizes his role as Christ's representative and dresses and presents himself accordingly.
