Senior Pastor Job Description

Principle Function:

The Senior Pastor shall be an elder of the First Baptist Church – Kahoka. He and the other Elders shall serve together as church leaders with neither to be considered subservient to or in authority over the other. They shall serve the church as a plurality of equals.

The Senior Pastor shall serve as leader of the Elder Team, as a "first among equals" in much the same way as Peter, James and John displayed within the twelve apostles, and within the church at Jerusalem. The Senior Pastor must meet the biblical qualifications as stated in scripture (1 Peter 5:2-5, 1 Timothy ,described in the FBC – Kahoka constitution.

The Senior Pastor is responsible to the Lord and FBC to proclaim the gospel, teach the Bible, engage in pastoral care; provide leadership in all areas of the church.

Ministry Requirements and Responsibilities:

1. Help plan and conduct worship services; prepare and deliver sermons, and lead in observance of the church ordinances.
2. Inspired and led by the Holy Spirit, the Senior Pastor as an Elder will provide leadership to FBC through the following priorities: evangelism, discipleship, missions, care, and vision.
3. Lead in an effective outreach program of visiting members and prospects.
4. Officiate wedding ceremonies and funerals.
5. As a part of the Elder Team, lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total program of the church.
6. Cooperate with the local association, state convention and Southern Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concern. Represent the church in the community of Kahoka and Clark County.
7. Work with the elders, deacons, church officers and committees as they perform their assigned responsibilities.

8. Coordinate the daily activities of the church staff, both volunteer and paid ministers.
