Senior Pastor

First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC (FBC) Senior Pastor Job Description and Duties Principle Function The Senior Pastor will be responsible for the welfare and oversight of the church and act as its shepherd (1 Peter 5:1-4). The ministry of the Senior Pastor must glorify God, be consistent with the Salisbury FBC Constitution and Bylaws, and involve ministries designed to help people come to know Jesus Christ and become committed followers of Him. Qualifications  Ordained SBC Pastor with ministry work experience  Graduated from a Southern Baptist Seminary OR a higher education institution of like faith and doctrine  Recommended by qualified Christian leaders or pastors as to doctrinal soundness and character  Pass thorough background checks  Possess personal qualities including Biblical characteristics from 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 regarding faithfulness to God in character and calling Evangelism Outreach  Lead the congregation in the adoption and implementation of church vision and mission strategies  Educate, encourage, and facilitate participation of the church body in evangelical and mission outreach locally and worldwide  Promote an atmosphere of and opportunity for spiritual health and growth that empowers Christians to serve as fellow ministers and servants in the faith  Support and participate in Baptist life beyond FBC, including the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist State Convention of NC, and the Rowan Baptist Association, and encourage church members to support and participate as well Worship and Discipleship  Minister to the church at all regular and appointed times of worship  Prepare and communicate Biblically-accurate, relevant sermons, preaching the full counsel of God's Word  Administer believers' baptism, communion, funerals, weddings, and parent/child dedications  Lead in the development and implementation of the church's discipleship-making strategy, participating himself, as well as facilitating the involvement of others Pastoral Care, Leadership, and Oversight  Provide care and counseling to church members in planned life events (e.g., pre- marital counseling) and moments of personal struggle or crisis (these may include referring members to additional resources beyond FBC)  Participate in homebound and hospital visits  Coordinate and provide administrative oversight of all church staff members' duties, (delegate responsibilities as appropriate)  Convey expectations to church staff for planning, goal setting, and fulfilling duties  Assess/evaluate church staff on a regular basis, providing guidance as needed  Make recommendations to the HRC in order to: fill vacant staff positions, terminate a staff member, and/or create new staff positions  In accordance with church bylaws the senior pastor will be an ex officio member of all organizations, departments, committees, and councils  Assign the ministerial staff to serve as ex officio members of various ministries and organizations of the church except for the HRC  Meet regularly with Trustees and Deacons of the church to give and receive input and direction regarding the spiritual health and overall direction of the church  Evaluation/assessment of the pastor will be conducted annually by the Human Resources Committee (HRC).
