Senior Pastor

Job Overview

The Big Idea: This is a fantastic role for the right leader. This opportunity offers a dynamic and rewarding challenge; one that requires vision, compassion, and adaptability to lead this mature congregation into a new season of growth and missional effectiveness. Grace desires a relational, shepherding pastor who is a strong biblical communicator who enjoys teaching, preaching and drawing out the deeper truths in God’s Word, and encouraging people to apply what they know in daily life. He will connect with people by visiting them, engaging with small groups, coaching ministry leaders and encouraging people throughout the week. Discipleship and Missions are clear values at Grace. Many adults participate in Sunday School or in a home- based small group. Their strong missional heart is evident through their generous support of overseas missions and local outreach. They currently give roughly 20% of their budget to those efforts. The church desires a pastor who will develop, equip and train people. He will help people discover their gifts and then encourage them to contribute as they are able. Pastoring an aging congregation also offers many opportunities to meet people in moments of crisis or challenge; to bring comfort, hope, and spiritual peace to those in need. An encouraging and friendly pastor who is grounded in the Word and readily communicates the wonderful hope that is found in Jesus will be a comfort and blessing to the Grace family.

Job Description

The Church:

During the winter months, the church offers two services, 8:30 and 10 a.m. with Sunday School offered during the second service. A Spanish language church uses the building for its services at 12:30 p.m. During the summer, attendance drops as people travel, and the church offers a single service at 9 a.m. Worship music is a blend of traditional hymns sung in an upbeat style and historic contemporary praise songs. Grace is served by a staff of three: Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor (open) and Administrative Assistant, plus a contract Worship Director. The church has a budget of just under $600,000 and is debt free.

The Candidate: The Senior Pastor at Grace will lead with the heart of a shepherd, nurturing a culture of both care and purposeful engagement. He will be faithful and Spirit-led as he embraces a role that includes preaching & teaching, pastoral care, organization, and strategic vision casting. Grounded in conservative Biblical theology, he will approach the pulpit with reverence and authenticity, delivering sermons with clarity, passion, and a touch of humor. He will enjoy strengthening and activating the church on mission. He will genuinely enjoy people, investing time and energy in building meaningful relationships as well as effective systems that help organize, align, equip and mobilize people to contribute where they are able.

The Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be theologically aligned and supportive of the EFCA statement of faith; A theological master’s degree required, with a Master of Divinity preferred; A minimum of five years of full-time Senior/Lead Pastor experience (could be a Campus Pastor in a setting with live preaching).
