- TEACH THE WORD- Interpret and teach the Scriptures, including theological concepts and its relation to the history of the Church and current events. Provide instruction for the Session, educational leaders, and confirm new members.
- TRAIN DISCIPLES- Encourage congregants in the lifetime process of growing spiritually. Equip them to know and love God deeply through his Word, to obey his commands, and to serve his people. Foster a culture in which disciples seek to make and train disciples.
- EVANGELIZE- Share your faith in Christ as your personal Savior, reflecting that faith through a totallifestyle. Seek to lead others within and outside the Church to accept Jesus Christ.
- FELLOWSHIP- Support existing congregational fellowship, helping members to know one another. Encourage existing and new fellowship groups as a way to give members the opportunity to love and support one another.
PASTOR PROFILE
We see the primary mission of the church as proclaiming the excellencies of God and seeking the salvation of all peoples. In addition to seeking a pastor who prioritizes worship, preaching, teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, we are seeking a pastor who is also a strong leader and administrator.
- HEART FOR GOD- We are praying for a man who seeks the Lord first and foremost for himself, and then for the sake of Christ's kingdom. A personal love for God's Word and robust habit of prayer are the all-important foundation of his ministry.
- GOSPEL ZEAL- The need here in Utah – as well as the opportunity – is great. We strive to be a church where the glorious grace of God in Christ is proclaimed with regularity and boldness. We see the primary mission of the church as proclaiming the excellencies of God and seeking the salvation of all peoples. It is wonderful to see the culture transformed as hearts are turned toward God – and when it does, we rejoice! – yet we believe Christ's kingdom is advanced first and foremost through the exalting of His name in the preaching of the Gospel and in the making of disciples.
- LEADERSHIP & VISION- In recent years, Grace Church has seen steady growth, and as we continue to welcome many visitors, our sanctuary is becoming quite snug on Sunday mornings. Our hope, however, is to open our doors as widely as possible, so that all whom the Lord brings might be able to join us, whether to hear the Good News for the first time, or to worship with God's people for the thousandth time. We are asking the Lord for a man who can help foster the growth we are experiencing, cast vision, and lead us into whatever the next chapter holds for us as a church.
- SHEPHERD OF THE PEOPLE- Jesus demonstrated during his earthly ministry what it means to be the Good Shepherd. We are prayerfully looking for an "undershepherd" to exercise oversight with humility, gentleness, wisdom and love; leading, serving, and coming alongside the session, as they tend God's flock together.
- FIRM APPRECIATION FOR CONFESSIONAL STANDARDS- At Grace Church, we hope people will hear the Scriptures first, and our tradition second. At the same time, we believe we can possess and promote a deep gratitude for the Reformed tradition and the Westminster Standards and do so – importantly – in a way that is winsome and welcoming to all. We desire to see bold, historic Christianity thrive in our midst.
- READINESS TO BE IN A DIFFICULT, DARK PLACE- Other ministers here in Utah have routinely noted that Utah – given the dominant Latter-day Saint (LDS) population and culture – is more akin to a foreign mission field than anything else. Those who stay often profess Utah to be the greatest state in the country, yet many have come here only to leave after two to three discouraging years. As a church, we are not at all discouraged; in fact, we are rather excited about what the Lord is doing. However, fruit can grow slowly out here, and we seek a man who can be content with however the Lord should lead our church, whether blessing it with surprising growth, or teaching us to persevere when the road seems long.
