The Pursuit Church in Rockland, Maine, seeks a servant-leader who can connect with and inspire people of diverse backgrounds, lead our church in following Jesus, teach God's Word, and engage and serve our community.

Pursuit Church was established in 2017, holding its first services in a movie theater with a heart for welcoming all, and particularly those who felt disconnected or hurt by traditional church experiences. We aim to follow Jesus in building His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven, and we're passionate about impacting our community with the good news of the gospel.

Job Description

The Lead Pastor's primary role is to provide Spiritual leadership to the church. The Pastor is also the principal executive officer of the corporation, and in cooperation with the Guidance and Leadership Team (GLT), oversees and manages all aspects of church business.

As this is a bi-vocational position, days and hours are flexible, so long as the following duties and responsibilities are fulfilled:

• Prepare and deliver weekly messages
• Help organize community outreach and mission programs
• Prepare for and lead weekly services, to include Communion and Baptism
• Maintain a strong professional image reflective of the church mission
• Appoint, develop and work with lay leaders to determine and maintain focus on the church's vision and mission
• Maintain and encourage a strong emphasis on prayer and worship
• Implement and/or support programs and events in alignment with the church's mission
• Provide support and/or counseling to members of the congregation and community as necessary and appropriate
• Officiate at weddings and funerals
• Oversee and/or support all general day-to-day business and administrative operations of the church
• Build momentum and growth for the church as a whole
• Cultivate and train the church body for leadership and ministry roles

The members of Pursuit Church have a desire to volunteer and help with any future endeavors. We currently have a facilities team, finance team, worship team, and children's ministry team in place. Also, we have numerous small groups that meet throughout the week. The church building is paid off and there was a new roof recently put on the building.

Ideology and Beliefs

The Lead Pastor must wholeheartedly and genuinely believe in and adhere to the doctrinal beliefs of The Pursuit Church as expressed in "The Baptist Faith and Message 2000" and "The Chicago Statement on Inerrancy." He must also have a heart aligned with community-focused ministry, with a goal of broadcasting the Gospel message to the community around us.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education in pastoral ministry (Seminary graduate preferred)
• Prior pastoral experience (lead, associate, youth, etc)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong leadership skills and ability to shepherd other church leaders
• Team player who values problem solving and leading in collaboration with other leaders, both within and outside of Pursuit Church.
• Relationship and service-focused with genuine care and concern for others
• Stable and grounded, emotionally, financially, relationally, etc.
• Ability to balance various responsibilities of church leadership with self and family care
• Meets the spiritual characteristics of a pastor and teacher found in scripture
• Full agreement and alignment with the Pursuit Church statement of faith

Compensation

At this time, we are able to offer a $1,500 stipend bi-weekly with plans to discuss and modify the compensation agreement on an annual basis as the church continues to develop and grow. As soon as funds become available, we hope to make this a full-time position.

In addition to the compensation agreement, we as a church are committed to supporting the Pastor and his family.
