This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the church's financial operations to support the ministry strategic priorities.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. General Ledger and Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll in accordance with fund accounting principles as part of monthly and annual close procedures.
  • Prepare and process all financial transactions, including deposits, checks, and electronic payments.
  • Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts monthly.

2. Contributions and Donor Management

  • Administer, record and acknowledge all donations, pledges, and contribution activities, ensuring accuracy of donor designations and confidentiality.
  • Prepare and assist in the distribution of annual giving statements to donors.
  • Maintain donor giving records and directed contributions in church management system.

3. Accounts Payable and Payroll

  • Ensure timely payment of all accounts payable and compliance of appropriate expense approvals.
  • Manage vendor records and fulfill IRS tax filing requirements (e.g., Form 941, Form 1099s, W-2s).
  • Perform bi-weekly payroll and reconciliation procedures accurately, related to health and retirement benefits, flexible spending accounts, insurance, salary deductions and payroll taxes.

4. General Projects

  • Perform supporting reconciliation and documentation in annual financial and Worker's Compensation audit, as necessary.
  • Perform special projects and other necessary tasks in support to the Director of Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or church environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks/ERP systems) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).

Skills/Abilities

  • High-level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to execute tasks in a timely manner.
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate and support ministry leaders and correspond to church donors.
  • Ability to maintain donor confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information. Ability to work independently and foster process improvement.
