This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the church's financial operations to support the ministry strategic priorities.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. General Ledger and Financial Management
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll in accordance with fund accounting principles as part of monthly and annual close procedures.
- Prepare and process all financial transactions, including deposits, checks, and electronic payments.
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts monthly.
2. Contributions and Donor Management
- Administer, record and acknowledge all donations, pledges, and contribution activities, ensuring accuracy of donor designations and confidentiality.
- Prepare and assist in the distribution of annual giving statements to donors.
- Maintain donor giving records and directed contributions in church management system.
3. Accounts Payable and Payroll
- Ensure timely payment of all accounts payable and compliance of appropriate expense approvals.
- Manage vendor records and fulfill IRS tax filing requirements (e.g., Form 941, Form 1099s, W-2s).
- Perform bi-weekly payroll and reconciliation procedures accurately, related to health and retirement benefits, flexible spending accounts, insurance, salary deductions and payroll taxes.
4. General Projects
- Perform supporting reconciliation and documentation in annual financial and Worker's Compensation audit, as necessary.
- Perform special projects and other necessary tasks in support to the Director of Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
- Minimum of three years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or church environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks/ERP systems) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Skills/Abilities
- High-level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to execute tasks in a timely manner.
- Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate and support ministry leaders and correspond to church donors.
- Ability to maintain donor confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information. Ability to work independently and foster process improvement.
