PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:

The Minister of Youth is responsible to the Pastor for the development and promotion of all youth programs of Royce Baptist Church. Youth are specifically defined as Grades 6-12.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a born again believer and follower of Christ with a testimony of his/her salvation experience.

2. Must have a reputation and character in the community representative of his/her testimony to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the efforts of Royce Baptist Church.

3. Must be loving, understanding, and appreciative of all young people and should possess the ability to make all youth feel welcome and accepted.

4. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas and express compassion to those in his/her realm of responsibility. Must also be able to document/set in writing long and short-term goals for the youth department (both spiritual and fun-filled activities).

5. Must be both a leader and a role model setting an example in all aspects of his/her life and should have the ability to motivate others with enthusiasm and boldness.

6. Must exhibit appropriate and biblical behavior – slow to anger, patient, kind, and open – particularly when dealing with youth.

7. Must be comfortable with the disciplining of youth where patience and love is tempered with justice and support. Further, he/she should work in cooperation with parents as well as with the Pastor in these matters. He/she will not be expected to endure disrespect.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Touch the lives of students with God's love and the Gospel of Christ ultimately leading to a salvation experience and spiritual growth.

2. Responsible for the total youth program with the goal of teaching them to walk closely with and trust fully in Jesus Christ. The youth program should include regular Bible Study and ongoing youth activities, retreats, outings, etc.

3. Serve as the regular teacher for the Youth Sunday School class.

4. Expected to be a faithful member of Royce Baptist Church – in attendance for all church services and functions.

5. Plan and coordinate youth activities and trips ~every 6-8 weeks.

6. Works closely with the Pastor for oversight, concurrence, and guidance regarding all youth activities.

7. Serve as a member of the Church Council coordinating youth activities with the church calendar of activities. Further, the Student Minister shall report the status of youth activities to the church in regular monthly business meetings and on other occasions as deemed necessary by the Pastor.

8. Develop and maintain the annual budgets for youth programs and activities as approved by the Budget/Finance Committee and the Church.

9. Counsel students regarding spiritual matters.

NOTE: The Student Minister must never counsel a student one-on-one when the student is of the opposite sex. In such cases, another adult of the same gender as the student must also be present for the counseling session.

10. Pray for the students, workers, and leaders.

11. Assist with miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as requested and assigned by the Pastor.

12. When unable to attend church/youth functions and/or services, the Student Minister must advise the Pastor of the unavoidable absence as soon as possible.

13. Attend "Review Sessions" as directed and performed by the Pastor.

BENEFITS:

The Student Minister will be considered as a part-time salaried employee. He/she shall have two (2) weeks (Sunday through Saturday) of paid time off per calendar year.
