Student Ministry Associate – Job Description

Pleasant City Church is located in Shelby, NC. We have an average Sunday attendance of 1,100

with a student ministry involving a weekly average over 125 students and leaders. Our church

Purpose:

The Student Ministry Associate, in coordination with the Student Pastor, is responsible for the

planning, coordination, and implementation of the disciple-making ministry for students at

Pleasant City Church. This will be accomplished through the teaching of God's word and

training in righteousness, so that every student may be complete in Christ.

Qualifications

Education – Bachelor's degree in a Ministry-related field preferred (have graduated or will be

graduating soon)

Experience – At least two years of experience serving in student ministry after high school.

Expectations – Though this is not a pastoral position, character and doctrine must align with

the qualifications for elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4) while possessing a

shepherd's heart. The candidate must be committed to supporting the Vision, Beliefs, and

Strategic Responsibilities

• Contribute an integral role in planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive

discipleship strategy to student ministry.

• Assist in equipping and exhorting student ministry leaders to encourage, equip, and

disciple students to become disciple makers.

• Build relationships with middle and high school students, discipling them to maturity that

they may themselves make disciples.

• Integral in planning and implementing student ministry events outside of regular

programming for the purpose of growing relationally and spiritually

• Work with the Student Pastor to develop and implement Sunday morning discipleship

strategy.

• Assist in mobilizing students to serve and fulfill the Great Commission within the context of

Pleasant City Church, locally within their own context, and beyond through mission

opportunities.

• Attend all Student Ministry events throughout the year including camps, activities,

conferences, etc.

• In cooperation with the Student Pastor, assist in developing a comprehensive sermon

series plan, while also having the desire and ability to prepare and preach biblically

accurate messages.

• Assist in the recruitment, training, and encouragement of all student ministry leaders.

Shepherding Responsibilities

• Willing and able to build relationships with both middle and high school students

• Connect with students and parents to facilitate a comprehensive family element to the

student ministry

• Assist in providing care for students and families connected to the student ministryWeekly Responsibilities

• Prepare warehouse247 (student ministry space) for weekly programming on Sundays and

Wednesdays.

• Attend weekly staff meetings

• Attend weekly Student Ministry Staff meetings

• Lead a Sunday morning Student Connect Group

• Coordinate volunteer scheduling through Planning Center

• Other responsibilities as determined by the needs of the ministry, as instructed by the

Student Pastor.

Relational Responsibilities:

• This person must be a self-starter and initiator in regards to relationships. While being an

"extrovert" is not required, being a person who can initiate and develop relationships is a

must.

• Actively pursue building relationships with students and meeting them where they are (i.e.

school lunches, sporting events, band competitions).

• Build relationships with students' families.

• Be comfortable stepping up on stage and leading a fun game, skit, doing announcements,

etc.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• This position will carry a significant portion of the administrative weight in our student

ministry. This will entail managing weekly attendance, event registrations, email

communications, etc.

• Alongside the Student Pastor, organize and coordinate all details for Wednesday night

gatherings. This includes using Planning Center, ProPresenter, and helping create, design,

and organize games when needed.

Staff Expectations

• Maintain personal spiritual disciplines such as prayer and studying scripture

• Maintain a humble spirit and commitment to teamwork with other pastors, staff, and church

members

• Seeks out individuals to personally disciple

• Set an example through tithing and encouragement of Christian stewardship

• Represent the church in a positive way within the community.

• Attend all regularly scheduled church services and activities.

• Attends staff meetings and staff retreats, contributing to the formation of vision and

strategy of the entire church
