Summary: The Youth Director plays a vital role in helping students know Jesus, grow in His Word, and lead others to Him—together. This position focuses on building relationships, developing student and adult leaders, and guiding the youth ministry in alignment with the overall mission and vision Shadycrest Baptist Church. The Youth Director will oversee and facilitate youth discipleship, major events, and leader development while empowering a team of volunteers to carry out much of the hands-on ministry. General Statement The Youth Director must be a born-again believer who demonstrates a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. He will agree with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message, uphold Biblical doctrine, and embrace a philosophy of ministry centered on disciple-making and relational investment. Core Responsibilities · Oversee and teach weekly youth gatherings, helping students grow in their understanding of Scripture and their personal walk with Christ. · Provide guidance and curriculum support for Sunday School or small groups. · Create space for students to ask questions, discuss/ask hard questions about faith, and practice sharing the gospel. · Recruit, equip, and mentor a team of adult volunteers who will help lead small groups, events, and relational ministry. · Identify and disciple student leaders, giving them meaningful roles in ministry. · Build personal connections with students and their families through intentional conversations, presence at youth events, and occasional attendance at school or community activities. · Partner with parents by providing encouragement, resources, and prayer support. · Oversee planning and promotion of major youth events (e.g., retreats, mission trips, camp) in partnership with volunteers. · Organize a monthly fellowship night or hangout to foster community. · Maintain a youth ministry calendar and communicate updates clearly with parents, leaders, and students. · Send weekly or bi-weekly updates to youth leaders and parents. · Coordinate with children's, college, and adult ministries to ensure smooth transitions and ministry alignment. · Maintain healthy and open relationship with supervisor. Administrative Expectations · Participate in staff meetings and church council as needed. · Track student attendance and follow up on absences through the leader team. · Ensure compliance with church safety and security policies. Supervisory Responsibilities · Provide leadership and oversight to all youth ministry volunteers. · Delegate tasks effectively to match leaders' gifts and availability. · Support leaders with training, encouragement and resources. · Address complaints and resolve problems and communicate issues to relevant personnel. · Maintain confidentiality Qualifications · Bachelor's degree or relevant ministry experience preferred. · Demonstrated ability to teach God's Word effectively to youth. · Relational, approachable, and committed to disciple-making. · Skilled in equipping volunteers and empowering others to lead. · Able to work a flexible schedule. · Successful background checks (criminal, financial, sexual misconduct). Workweek & Hours · 10-20 hours per week, depending on the season. · Additional hours required during camp, mission trips, or major events. · Some flexibility in scheduling; most work will occur Wednesday evenings, Sundays, and at pre-scheduled events. Key Outcomes for Success · Students are known, cared for, and are growing in their faith. · A healthy team of adult volunteers is equipped and engaged. · Parents are informed, encouraged, and supported in discipling their teens. · Youth ministry events and programs align with the mission and vision of the church.
