Urban Ministry Fellowship
Job Overview
One Hope fellows are young men and women who have graduated college or are at least 21 years old and are interested in developing a background in urban ministry, community development, and nonprofit work. Fellows should be members in good standing at a local church and must be willing to live in Tulsa for 11 months to participate in the fellowship in a full time work and neighbor capacity.
- Fellows live in the neighborhood around the Historic Route 66 Rose Bowl, alongside the neighborhood One Hope serves.
- Fellows gain hands-on experience in multiple areas of urban ministry and will grow their skills for creative problem solving and collaboration in a multi-stake holder environment.
- Fellows learn about the Imago Dei, racial reconciliation, trauma care, peacemaking in the midst of violence, the priority and purpose of the local church, kingdom economics, reading the Bible with the poor, prophetic imagination and lament, incarnational living, and more.
- Fellows provide core staffing for One Hope programming and outreaches.
- Fellows receive room and board, along with a small monthly stipend.
Why It’s Important
- The neighborhoods where One Hope focuses are diverse racially and economically.
- Our local schools are failing to meet state and national standards, and 9 out of 10 children in Tulsa Public Schools live in neighborhoods with life expectancies below the national average.
- Tulsa exploded with racial tension in 1921 in perhaps the worst episode of racial violence our nation has ever seen. Almost a hundred years after the Tulsa Race Massacre, the city continues to experience the impact of systemic racism and racial trauma.
- Oklahoma has some of the highest rates in the nation of childhood trauma, which has a direct negative impact on long-term health and educational outcomes.
- Even in the midst of relational brokenness, our neighborhood is a place of hope and healing because of Jesus. We believe God deeply loves our neighbors, and we are committed to developing servant leaders with a heart for communities on the margins.
- One Hope has twenty plus years of experience in leadership development.
