Vice President of Ministry Development (Remote)
Job Overview
Spirit of Elijah Ministries, a Christian nonprofit dedicated to transformative discipleship, is seeking a Vice President of Ministry Development that will eventually assume the role of CEO and lead the organization into its next season of growth and impact. This role will work closely with the existing Founder/President in the first year or so, and gradually transition into the role of CEO, fully taking on leadership of the pastoral and operational responsibilities of the role. During this process, the Vice President of Ministry Development will maintain a steady focus on the assigned duties and responsibilities while navigating a period of leadership change. Then they will succeed the ministry's Founder/President, not by stepping into his shoes, but by faithfully walking in their own, honoring the foundation laid, while courageously and prayerfully leading the organization into its next chapter.
Job Description
At his core, the next Vice President of Ministry Development will be a spirit-led strategist first, and a visionary pastor-builder next, leading with conviction in both his words and actions. His keen strategic foresight, combined with a deep understanding of biblical discipleship, will enable him to anticipate and navigate with clarity and purpose. With an ability to minister with influence and impact, he will equip and empower diverse audiences locally and globally. The role demands a leader who can balance the legacy of a tenured leader with the need for future growth while reassuring the ministry's internal stakeholders and external partners of the organization's local and global impact and strengthening its long-term impact.
The position is remote, based out of a home office, and involves regular travel to speaking engagements, ministry events, and conferences both domestically and internationally. Once the role is fully active, travel is expected to comprise approximately 30%–40% of the time, depending on the ministry calendar and opportunities. A strategic overlap period will be implemented to ensure a smooth leadership transition and the faithful transfer of the ministry's mission and culture. During this time, the incoming leader will work closely with the Founder/President and the Board of Directors to establish clear plans for logistical coordination, ministry responsibilities, and intentional discipleship. This collaborative process will allow for relational trust-building, alignment in vision and values, and continuity of the ministry's mission.
The Vice President of Ministry Development will have senior leadership experience at a church or nonprofit, with accompanying education, and proven competencies in the areas of strategic foresight, leadership coaching, systematic development, mission implementation, executive operations, donor/fund development, capacity building, and pastoral care.
