Worship Leader

Job Overview

The Worship Leader is responsible for the leadership and implementation of the elements of corporate worship at FPO. The end goal is to facilitate our people in glorifying God through singing and music. The Worship Leader will work closely with the Senior Pastor, Assistant Worship Leader and the volunteers to choose music and elements to draw people into praising the Lord.

In addition to the compensation, for the right applicant, there is also the possibility of paying for seminary education.

JOB DESCRIPTION: WORSHIP LEADER

FLSA STATUS: Part-time (10-15 hours/week)

REPORTS PRIMARILY TO: Senior Pastor

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

The Worship Leader is responsible for the leadership and implementation of the elements of corporate worship at FPO. The end goal is to facilitate our people in glorifying God through singing and music.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Oversight of the Worship band on Sunday mornings and for special worship services
    • Recruit and train members to help to lead the church in worship on Sunday mornings
      • Constantly looking for members who have musical gifts and training them in how to use their gifts for the edification of the Body in worship
      • Hold regular auditions for new possible band members
    • Responsible for the discipleship of the members of the worship band
      • Building relationships with them in order to minister to them
    • Help the members of the band to grow and develop in their musical ability
      • Providing regular feedback and their playing and places for improvement
    • Lead rehearsals of the band weekly
  • Lead the band on Sunday mornings or have a trained replacement
  • Managing and responsible for the worship budget

Planning

  • Coordination of the band
    • Decide schedule for those who are playing in the band and communication of it
  • Be ultimately responsible for the song selections and flow of the music on Sunday mornings
    • Participate in the monthly "worship planning meeting" with members of music staff and pastors
  • Continuing to look for new songs to add to our repertoire
    • Staying up to date on new worship music that would be beneficial to our Body
    • Willingness to learn and train others in new music
  • Responsible for administration of Planning Center with help of Assistant Worship Leader
    • Ensures information is up to date and correct for each week
  • Helping to develop liturgical themes for Sunday morning
    • Helping to make all of what happens on Sunday connect together

Sound and Equipment

  • Ensuring that the band has what it needs from a technical standpoint
    • Making sure we have cords and equipment in good and working order
  • Have working knowledge of sound board and sound equipment
  • Recruit, train and schedule volunteers to run the sound board

Other

  • Assist other ministries of the church with music for worship events
    • Helping them to identify and train those with music gifts

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Proficient in playing rhythm guitar and/or piano while singing
  • Understand basic music theory (keys, tempo, chords, harmonies, etc.)
  • Ability and desire to lead other singers and musicians
  • Desire to lead people in worship
  • Familiarity with traditional hymns and modern worship music

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Affirm the EPC Essentials of the Faith
  • Church membership at FPO

PERSONAL CONDUCT:

The Worship Leader is expected to grow in his or her spiritual walk with Christ, his commitment to the Body of Believers, and in his burden for those who are lost through:

  1. Daily devotional time
  2. Maintenance of character consistent with Biblical standards for those in leadership
  3. Attendance at all church-wide functions
  4. Attendance at age-appropriate ministry functions not in conflict with ministry schedule
