Soma is a growing congregation that is focused on the ministry to the world by the congregation. We run a different model of church. There are no professional Christians here. All of us have jobs outside the church and love being in the community to invite people into the Kingdom. Here is an addendum to all the job descriptions at Soma Valley Church. It speaks to who we are and how we work. The worship leader is crucial to our work. Let's talk!
Here’s an addendum to the job description for people who work at Soma Valley Church. I fear that we will become a church with staff who run projects and programs. I fear that we will be domesticated and provide services for people to pick from and be willing to pay for. I fear we will easily fall for the old ways of sedating our community and making them comfortable and nice rather than preparing them for the coming of Jesus and His Kingdom among us.
We are not hiring staff. We want missionaries. We want people who are fearless seers of the Spirit’s work and able to walk into that work with eager competence. We want missionaries who will bring in the broken and the lost to a community who will welcome and love them.
The worship must be raucous enough to satisfy the most desperate. It should stir the hearts of the dull and despondent: a loud protest to the culture’s command to be quiet about what we believe. We are declaring the resurrection from the dead each Sunday…and it should wake up the dead among us.
We want missionaries going to the lost, lonely, hopeless, possessed, bored, addicted, angry, depressed, satisfied, disenchanted sinners and proclaiming the invitation of Jesus to the new Kingdom here on earth.
We want frightening people who believe Jesus can change anyone because of the way he has changed them. We want missionaries with the best stories, the most repentance stories, the best lovers, the ones who fail the most because they will try the most. We want evangelists who are filling the world with new believers. Have mercy on us.
