Southview Baptist Church is looking for a leader to help develop its worship activities including blended worship services, choir, praise team, and ensemble.

OUR NEED

We seek discerning leadership to help us expand our music ministry to include current worship music that stirs our young families while including traditional hymns that engage our longstanding members. This role collaborates with Pastor to develop a Gospel-focused inclusive music program for all generations as our church welcomes a younger and increasingly diverse community growing around us.

Core responsibilities include selecting choir anthems and worship music, managing rehearsals, and preparing music for worship services, choir, praise team, and instruments. The job description is flexible, allowing for additional roles such as establishing youth/children's choir, preaching, teaching, or managing media and technology depending on applicant's interests and skills. College degree preferred. Salary based on applicant's education, experience, and the extent of responsibilities.

OUR CHURCH

Southview Baptist is located in Iowa Colony, Texas. We are fundamental in teaching and preaching and we are led to reach the thousands of young families moving into the subdivisions developing around us who come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, denominations and Bible version preferences. Our pastor preaches using the New American Standard Bible. Most members carry KJV, NAS, or NIV versions.

We are a multigenerational congregation of 250–300 focused on building relationships and sharing the Gospel. This growing church is located on a major freeway in an area of rapid development and we are unified in our focus to engage the families moving into our area.

When our long-time pastor retired in January 2024, Associate Pastor & Music Minister Kyle Gulledge was called to be our new pastor in a seamless and uneventful transition. We now have an Interim Music Director.

OUR MUSIC

● Congregational Music: a combination of traditional hymns and selections from 1980-2015 songs like "He Knows My Name", "Days of Elijah", and "Majesty". In the last year we have incorporated more contemporary pieces including "Behold Our God" and "Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me".

● Praise Team: four choir regulars are designated to lead on Sunday mornings.

● Instruments: organ, piano, keyboard, drums, flutes and trombone.

● Choir: a growing group of 30–35 dedicated participants including several capable soloists. Most are not formally trained, nor read music. Choir diligently prepares and presents music each Sunday. We rehearse, learn, and perform with both Performance and SATB soundtracks via Google Drive. We have several capable soloists.

We have a repertoire of 2010-2015 songs like "Jesus Saves", "There Is A Remedy", "Chain Breaker", Jerusalem", and "Thou O Lord," and the previous 12 months have added only current more current pieces such as "Goodness of God", "Living Hope", "This Is Our God" and "Come, Jesus, Come."

NOTE

We are a growing memorized choir and do not use music score or lyrics. We rely heavily on our director's clear direction and vocalized lyrics to support our performance. While our memorized method works well for us, it has become clear that the approach is uncommon and may need adjustment.
