About the Worship Pastor:

The worship leader must be a visionary who is creative in leading people to God.  This leader must communicate a direction in a way that inspires those around him/her to join in the pursuit of that vision.  This position requires the individual to serve not solely as a musical or performing arts director but also as a shepherd to the staff and volunteers who serve in this ministry.

The Worship Pastor’s Responsibilities Include: 

  • Provide leadership creatively, technically and relationally to the worship ministries of Cathedral and build a full department of passionate worshippers.
  • Maintain an authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, fasting, confession, and fellowship.
  • Spend time developing relationships with lost people so as to be personally effective in pursuing the Great Commission and helping the church to do the same.
  • Build the necessary teams to carry out the worship vision of Cathedral.
  • Plan the corporate worship services of Cathedral in consultation with the Lead Pastors and do so with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness.  Ensure that all the musical and technical aspects of the service advance the theme for the day.
  • Serve as lead worshiper in all worship services.
  • Direct all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate worship in services.
  • Shepherd and care for the worship teams and choirs.
  • Introduce worship teams and choirs to worship training provided by other ministries, books, and conferences.
  • Plan and participate as team player for major seasonal and/or outreach musicals/dramas (generally two to three times per year).  Discover and implement additional ways to reach the local community evangelistically through creative arts.
  • Manage the worship department budget, organization, and volunteers.
  •  Develop relationships with local musicians, studios, and clubs for both evangelistic and staffing purposes.
  • Set annual goals for the worship ministry that are in line with the overall vision of Cathedral and then evaluate how those goals were attained or modified during the year.

What You Bring: 

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Track record of growing and leading teams
  • High School diploma required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective spiritual leader, as well as a gifted musician.
  • A heart for the spiritual formation of those in the congregation and the worship ministry, both staff and volunteers.
  • Relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading a large church in worship.
  • Skilled in vocal and instrumental direction.
  • Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the following the use of Logic Pro, Ableton, ProPresenter, Finale, Planning Center Online, Multitracks, Microsoft Office/Mac comparable, MainStage, and Waves audio plugins.
  • A self-starter and team player with a positive attitude

Personal Characteristics & Qualifications

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Commitment to moral purity. Maintain yourself and your home life in a spiritual way in accordance with 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of Cathedral and the Lead Pastors.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a worship leader, i.e. demonstrated ability to grow a music ministry over the years.
