Job Description Worship Leader/Pastor

  1. Hours of Work

This is a Part-Time salaried position. The working hours of the Worship Pastor shall be coordinated with the Senior/Lead Pastor. Hours to be worked include: Worship service/services; practice with the Worship Band (to be coordinated with the band members.) The number of hours may vary or be adjusted to meet particular needs and/or programs.

As indicated in the duties section of this document. The actual daily working hours of the Worship Pastor shall be coordinated with and approved by the Senior/Lead Pastor.

  1. Supervisory Chain

The Worship Pastor shall work with and coordinate activities with the Senior/Lead Pastor and Leadership Team. He/she shall be responsible to the Senior/Lead Pastor who alone has the responsibility to instruct the Worship Pastor in the performance of his/her duty. The Worship Pastor, insofar as possible, must be protected from unreasonable demands of church members in order to permit the accomplishment of his/her duties in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Primary Focus

The primary responsibility of the Worship Leader/Pastor will be to cultivate a growing, intimate, love relationship with Jesus and help lead the congregation into that same intimacy in worship. As a secondary focus plan, coordinate, and lead weekly worship services for the members of the church. This role will include coordinating music with members of the Worship Band, providing lyrical slides to audiovisual support staff, interacting with all other ministry leaders, and most importantly, coordinating service themes or lessons with the Senior/Lead Pastor. As the leader of Worship, the Worship Leader prays, sings and interacts with Worship Band, Senior Pastor, and church members to ensure the service flows as smoothly as possible from beginning to end. It is a balanced combination of spiritual, musical, and presentation objectives.

  1. Duties as described below shall somewhat indicate the responsibilities of this employee.

Note: To make it easy to read and understand, all gender references below will use the male pronoun; however, this position is open to any gender.

  1. Regular duties:

* Select music for worship services.

* Find chords, lyrics and copyright info for all music and print for rehearsal/worship service for all musicians/singers.

* Send set list, links, lyrics and chords to pastor, church secretary (for bulletin and copyright filing), band members and Production team.

* Lead/produce practice with musicians/singers.

* Arrive before practice and worship to ensure set up and to begin promptly as well as end promptly.

* Lead worship for all Celebration Services.

* Makes transition prayers/comments between songs as needed.

* Maintain instruments, repairs, worship needs; reconfigure stage for musicians as needed (this may also require coordination with audio visual coordinator).

* Help clear off stage for other uses (VBS, dramas, etc) with coordination of audio visual coordinator.

* Filing chord sheets

* Create/balance budget for the worship ministry (this includes music/visual aids/instruments/repairs, etc.)

* Attend Leadership Team and staff meetings.

* Give input and assist with stage design/backdrops to coordinate with sermon series.

  1. Occasional duties

* Assist in creating intro videos for sermon series as needed.

The Worship Leader/Pastor will coordinate special services with the Youth Minister, Children’s Ministers, weddings, funerals and other activities throughout the year.

The Worship Leader/Pastor shall review annually and abide by the policies and procedures of New Hope Church as communicated by the Senior/Lead Pastor and Leadership Team.

Any other duties as required by the Senior/Lead Pastor.

Additional skills and requirements: Ability to read music, sing in a pleasing manner on-key, ability to play musical instrument highly desirable, ability to use lyrical software and Microsoft Office software. Previous experience in a band or choral group, or as a leader of a band or choral group, also highly desirable.

The contemporary nature of New Hope Church dictates that a rigid dress code would not be enforced. However, it is expected that Worship Leader/Pastor dress reasonably and in attire appropriate for the occasion or activity in which engaged as well as give leadership/oversight to other band members/singers in acceptable dress code.

All employees of New Hope Church will be expected to engage in conduct, both on and off the job, in such a manner that will not reflect adversely upon the church. Serious misconduct of a nature what would tend to discredit the church could result in termination or other appropriate disciplinary actions.

  1. Holidays and Vacation

The Worship Leader shall be permitted two (2) weeks of vacation with pay, each year following twelve months of employment; after five years employment three (3) weeks of paid vacation; after ten (10) years, four (4) weeks of paid vacation. In cases of illness, emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances, absences for brief periods may be permitted. Normally, however, an employee will be not be absent from work without making an appropriate request of the Senior/Lead Pastor, receiving approval, and ensuring that a substitute is scheduled to execute the normal duties of the Worship Pastor during his absence. The Worship Pastor may, if he feels it necessary, discuss with the Senior/Lead Pastor a change in work schedule in order to meet a particular need, whether personal or job related.

  1. Salary

The Worship Pastor’s salary shall be paid on a weekly basis. A salary review shall be conducted by the Senior/Lead Pastor on an annual basis. Starting salary is dependent on experience and ranges from $350 – $450 weekly. A salary review will be conducted six months following you date of hire.

  1. Resignation

The Worship Leader/Pastor, by accepting this staff position and with regards to its importance, shall, unless there are extenuating circumstances, agree to provide thirty (30) days prior written notice of his intended resignation. If possible, he will be expected to assist the Senior/Lead Pastor in the securing, orientation, and training of the most qualified available replacement for this position.

  • Termination

The Worship Leader/Pastor may be immediately terminated by the Senior/Lead Pastor for misappropriation of any money associated with Worship Budget, for insubordination to the Senior/Lead Pastor, and for failure to perform the duties as outlined and/or dereliction of their position.

  • Probation Period

All new and rehired employees work on a probationary basis for the first 90 calendar days after their date of hire. If New Hope Church determines that the designated introductory period does not allow sufficient time to thoroughly evaluate the employee’s performance, the introductory period may be extended for a specified period.

The probation period is intended to give new employees the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to achieve a satisfactory level of performance and to determine whether the new position meets their expectations. New Hope Church uses this period to evaluate employee capabilities, work habits, and overall performance. At the end of the probationary period, the employee shall meet with the Senior/Lead Pastor who will determine the outcome of the training period relative to whether the employee should be retained. Either the employee or New Hope Church may end the employment at will at any time during the training period, with or without cause or advance notice.

  • Background Investigation

Prior to being accepted for employment at this or any staff position at New Hope Church, applicant shall be subjected to a background investigation to assist in determining suitability for employment. This pre-employment investigation may include checking with applicant’s previous employers, conducting criminal history checks, verifying educational and training claims, interviewing character references, etc. Intentional falsification of submitted information shall be sufficient grounds for rejection of application. Should falsification be discovered after the applicant is hired, such falsification shall be sufficient ground for immediate dismissal of employee.
