Position Summary:
Develops and oversees the Youth Ministry (The Well) services, including planning and coordinating opportunities that promote a high level of physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, engagement, and growth.
This position is under the direction of The Children’s Ministry Director, and in partnership with the Church Office, teachers, and parents. The director will lead and disciple the Youth Ministry in all aspects of strategy and implementation, and empower team workers in line with our commitments, values, and culture to build the foundation of the Christian faith and provide a channel for spiritual growth for young Christians from Grades 6 through High School.
Job Description
Goal: To operate the Youth Ministry in accordance with New Covenant House (NCH) vision, mission, policies and procedures. Provide a safe, scriptural, and nurturing environment for children, parents, and teachers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Provide spiritual guidance, mentorship, and counseling to middle and high school students, significantly helping them grow in their relationship with God and navigate life’s challenges from a biblical perspective. • Lead and oversee regular youth group meetings, fostering an environment of worship, learning, fellowship, and discipleship. • Build, establish and maintain positive and healthy relationships with the youth and their families. Partner with parents/guardians, in pastoring their children towards having a closer relationship with God, and becoming faithful disciples. • Prepare and deliver engaging and relevant teachings, sermons, and lessons that effectively communicate biblical truths to youth in a relatable and understandable manner. • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers who will assist in youth ministry activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for young people. Coordinate the teaching and serving schedule with supplementary teachers and any hired staff. • Collaborate with other church ministries, such as children’s ministry, worship teams, and pastoral staff, to ensure seamless integration of youth activities and initiatives within the broader church community. • Pursue ongoing personal and professional development through reading, attending conferences, networking, and staying updated on current trends and resources in youth ministry. • Oversee the Youth Ministry Sunday school classes, ministry and other Youth Ministry activities. • Complete all administrative duties relating to the Youth Ministry. • Create and effectively manage the Youth Ministry budget. • Communicate consistently and effectively with parents/guardians of the children at New Covenant House, as well as the parents/guardians of visitors. • Promote the health and safety of all children, hired staff and volunteers and ensure that all volunteers/staff adhere to NCH Youth Ministry policies. • Organize and facilitate in planning special outreach events such as (Hallelujah Sunday, Back to School Bash, End of School Party, Summer Camp and activities) any Mid-Week or Weekend services, Easter service, and Christmas Celebration service. This obviously ensures that they align with the church’s values and goals. • Plan and conduct other appropriate programs particularly for the Youth Ministry. • Attend meetings with other Staff or relevant members of the New Covenant House Leadership or Volunteer Team, to advocate for, or report for the Youth Ministry when necessary. • Keep classrooms physically well kept, attractive, and safe. • Co-ordinate & Attend regular staff meetings. • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises all Youth Ministry employees and volunteers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the church organization’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and discipling employees; planning, assigning, and directing work of volunteers; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees.

• The youth director should demonstrate a vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This can be characterized by a deep understanding of Scripture, prayer, and a commitment to living out biblical principles in daily life.
• Strong leadership abilities are essential for effectively guiding and influencing youth. The youth pastor should possess the ability to inspire, motivate, and mobilize both youth members and volunteers, leading by example and cultivating a positive and nurturing environment.
• Effective communication is vital in connecting with youth and effectively conveying biblical truths. The youth director should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage and articulate messages that resonate with youth members.
• The youth ministry director should be relatable and approachable to youth, with the ability to build trust and establish meaningful connections. This includes having genuine empathy and understanding of the challenges and struggles faced by young people today.
• The youth ministry director should work well within a team environment, collaborating with church staff, volunteers, parents, and other ministries to create a cohesive and unified approach to youth ministry.
• The youth ministry director should demonstrate integrity, humility, and a strong commitment to personal and ethical conduct. They should be a positive role model for youth and exhibit a lifestyle that reflects the teachings of Christ.
• Must be able to participate and attend all New Covenant House Youth ministry programs/ events, except on vacation, or with prior notification.
• A bachelor’s degree in divinity, theology, ministry, education or a related field is preferred and/or at least two years’ work experience in a Youth ministry program preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
