The Youth Director will work closely with church leadership, parents, and volunteers to cultivate a vibrant youth program that aligns with the mission of Saint Paul Methodist Church. We have over 75 children and youth currently active at Saint Paul and we are looking for a captivating leader to build a vital part of our church ministry.

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Senior Minister with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including health care, retirement, and paid time off. This person is a part of the Saint Paul Ministry Team and must be a team player.

Job Description

Purpose

The Youth Director will work closely with church leadership, parents, and volunteers to cultivate a vibrant youth program that aligns with the mission of Saint Paul Methodist Church. We have over 75 children and youth currently active at Saint Paul and we are looking for a captivating leader to build a vital part of our church ministry.

Key Responsibilities

A.   Youth Ministry – includes Middle and High School students

  • Develop, plan, and implement a comprehensive youth ministry program for middle and high school students that is engaging and interactive, fosters meaningful relationships, and builds foundations to becoming disciples of Jesus.
  • Organize and lead weekly youth group meetings, Bible studies, Confirmation Classes, and other fellowship activities.
  • Plan and coordinate special events, retreats, mission trips, and service projects.
  • Collaborate with other ministry leaders to integrate youth into the broader life of both Saint Paul Methodist Church and the greater denomination of the Global Methodist Church.
  • Provide a bridge for youth as they transition through life stages, including moving up from our Saint Paul Children’s Ministry into the Youth program and graduating high school and moving on to college.

B.    Youth Families & Volunteers

  • Maintain open communication with parents, keeping them informed and engaged in their children’s spiritual growth.
  • Build relationships throughout the congregation and community, focusing primarily on the families of youth and children.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteer leaders to assist with youth programs.

C.   Administrative & Other

  • Manage the youth ministry budget and resources effectively.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in youth ministry and incorporate them into programs.
  • All other duties as assigned by church leadership.

About Us

Saint Paul Methodist Church, located in Goldsboro, North Carolina, is a historic downtown church with a long, rich history. The congregation is primarily Caucasian, professional families with a desire for orthodox Wesleyan theology and adherence to biblical authority. We are a Global Methodist Church congregation and we have approximately 400 members active, engaged, and attending. Our mission is to Worship God, Grow in Faith, and Serve Others in the name of Jesus.

We have two regular Worship Services each Sunday with divergent styles of worship and music. One of our services is a Traditional Worship Service full of liturgy and hymns accompanied by the organ and is held in our beautiful, classic Sanctuary. This worship service is live streamed online and is broadcast across the local television station each week. Our other Worship Service is a non-traditional service and is held in our fellowship hall with upbeat music and provides a more dynamic, family-friendly environment.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate a strong personal relationship with Jesus and a commitment to the mission of Saint Paul.
  • A willingness to adhere to the Global Methodist Church doctrine.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in education, religious studies, child development, family relations, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a ministry or similar setting.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm in developing engaging programs and activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to and engage with young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Ability to solicit, obtain, and train volunteers is required.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Must be self-motivated, have ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The ability and commitment to maintain appropriate confidentiality is required.
