Job Overview

The Youth Intern/Pastor will be the person primarily responsible for overseeing and building the Valley Student Ministry (VSM), working directly with the Junior High and High School Students (7th-12th grade). The ideal candidate is someone who is highly relational, teachable, values sound doctrine and Disciple-making and meets all of the requirements of an overseer, as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. This is a part-time position (10-15 hours a week), and for the right candidate, this would grow into a full-time position either commensurate with experience or upon completion of their degree if they are still in school.

Job Description

The primary duties and responsibilities for this job are:

1. Continue to grow and mature in your own personal walk with Jesus Christ through daily Bible reading, Spiritual Disciplines, living in Biblical community and discipleship.
2. Build relationships with the students and with the parents/families at Valley Christian Church.
3. Organize, facilitate and teach the youth service on Sunday mornings during second service.
4. Act as the main source for Spiritual direction and vision for the Valley Student Ministry
5. Help serve and lead the AWANA Trek Group (6th-8th graders) that meet on Monday night.
6. Attend weekly staff meetings on Tuesday mornings, where we pray for the congregation and update one another on what is going on in our ministries (this could be flexible if candidate is still in school)
7. Meet with Lead Pastor weekly for mentorship, ministry updates and implementation of vision into youth ministry.
8. Develop and administer an annual budget for the student ministry in conjunction with the Executive Pastor
9. Plan events and outings for the students, with the intention to build community and invite other students in.
10. Provide supervision and leadership for the VSM volunteers. Recruit and train up new volunteers.
11. Plan Summer Camp, Winter Camp and other retreats and events.
12. Over time, help to implement a mid-week service for the youth and have a plan for the youth group to grow in number by building strategic relationships with ministry partners and students.
13. Help serve at Church-wide events, such as our annual Christmas party, as needed.
14. Other duties as assigned.
