Youth Minister

Memorial Baptist Church is seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Ministerto provide leadership, vision, and spiritual direction for our youth ministry (6th–12th grades). This role is vital in helping students grow in their faith, engage in meaningful discipleship, and become active members of the body of Christ.

Salary – $40,000

Job Overview

The Youth Minister provides leadership, support, vision, and direction for the youth ministry at Memorial Baptist Church. They serve as the chief communicator, biblical teacher, and leader of the youth ministries. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and evaluating the ministry for all ages from 6th through 12th grade. They serve the church by shepherding carefully and prayerfully the students, parents, and volunteers involved, helping them develop and grow in their faith and walk with Christ.

A disciple of Jesus Christ who personifies a growing relationship with the Lord and demonstrates a love and passion for serving Him; and a member in good standing (or willing to become one) of Memorial Baptist ChurchA sound knowledge of Scripture and an ability to effectively apply Scriptural principles in ministry that lead to life transformationAble to submit to the spiritual authority of the Lead Pastor and be a team playerClear in God's leading to youth ministriesA lifestyle congruent with the biblical qualifications for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9).A heart to honor God above all and to lead people, especially children and students, into deeper worship and knowledge of Him.A demonstrated ability to lead and work with volunteer workers of all age groups of the church in a spirit of harmony.A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other church staff members.Ministry-related education or a willingness to pursue is strongly preferred.Competencies:

Engaging personality with strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain appropriate discretion and confidentiality.Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with church personnel, church members and general public.A high commitment to team ministry, relationships, and having fun along the way.Ability to recruit, train, support, evaluate, and affirm others to teach youth.Ability to plan, organize and direct youth ministries.Skills in ministry oversight, planning, budgeting forecasting, social media, and technology.Must be capable of administering Church policies and procedures.

Responsibilities/Essential Job Duties:

General Ministry LeadershipParticipate in all scheduled staff meetings and staff development times.Assist with church-wide care. Assisting with hospital visits, nursing home visits, and extended care situations of the congregation.Provide basic counseling when appropriate.Prepare and present an annual budget to the Business Management Team for all youth ministry expenditures and maintain a balanced budget throughout the year.Keep informed on methods, materials, principles, procedures, promotions, and administration related to pertinent ministries.Maintain openness to new ideas and flexibility in adopting new strategies of ministry.Be present and available to support all church-wide services (Sunday and Wednesday) and special events.Work with other ministry staff when responsibilities overlap.

Teach the Bible with excellence, clarity, and authenticity, delivering messages grounded in Scripture that are applicable to everyday life.Youth Ministry LeadershipVision & StrategySet vision, direction, and goals for youth ministry that align with the overall vision of Memorial Baptist Church.Work with the Lead Pastor to develop a comprehensive plan for youth ministry.Implement a strategy for partnering with parents to reach the youth with the gospel, disciple them in their faith, and equip them to live as fully devoted and growing disciples of Jesus.Develop tools to gauge the effectiveness of MBC's youth ministries.Work with other church leadership and staff to coordinate youth events and outreach.Communicate with other church leadership and staff about short- and long-term ministry plans and strategy.Spiritual Formation and EngagementEngage youth with opportunities to develop a strong spiritual foundation and a growing faith in Christ, and to experience being an active part of the body of Christ.Encourage and facilitate student engagement in the larger church body.Provide a warm, safe, and friendly environment for youth and families.Build relationships with and provide ministerial care for youth and their parents.Find creative ways to impact public schools by developing relationships with the schools in our community and creating potential outreach opportunities.Oversee the youth ministry for the Sunday and Wednesday programs.Plan and lead Camps, Vacation Bible School, and other special events—providing multiple opportunities for students to grow and strengthen their faith both on campus and off. These types of trips/events are both expected and encouraged throughout the year.Leadership and Team DevelopmentDevelop and lead youth ministry teams, including recruiting, training, evaluating, and encouraging ministry leaders and volunteers.Lead the youth ministry team in planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive youth ministry plan.Serve as staff liaison for assigned church committees and ministry teams.Personal Growth and DevelopmentBe a student of child and adolescent faith development and ministry through independent study, continuing education, seminars, conferences, etc.Use appropriate developmental knowledge to best meet the needs of MBC's youth ministries.Parent and Family LeadershipEncourage families through regular and consistent communication.Provide opportunities for parents to grow in their ability to shepherd their own children by offering access to beneficial training and resources.Be a resource to help parents engage spiritually with their children.Organize and participate in youth dedications and baptisms.Perform other ministerial functions as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

Accountability

The Youth Minister works under the supervision and direction of the Lead Pastor. The Human Resources Team will also provide supervision and accountability.The Youth Minister will meet regularly with the relevant ministry team leaders to plan and coordinate.Once a year the Youth Minister and Lead Pastor will do a written performance review.Vacation, holidays, and other circumstances related to working conditions can be found in personnel policies.
