Youth Ministry Director

Job Overview

Overview & Purpose of this Position:
To lead and build Fellowship Raleigh’s Youth Ministry in partnership with parents and a leadership team; to be a ministry where students encounter Jesus and are established in their beliefs, their walk, and in community with one another.

Job Description

Ideal Leader Profile:

  • Has a passion for connecting with, investing in, and discipling youth (6-12th)
  • Is an outgoing leader who is eager to engage with all kinds of students and parents
  • Is administrative enough to manage and coordinate ministry events
  • Is a good communicator from the front (i.e. teaching, leading) and interpersonally (i.e. proactive and responsive with email, texting, messaging, calls, etc.). 
  • Has a flexible schedule to go along with this part-time position

Basic Requirements:

  • A growing Christian faith and character observed by community (and references)
  • A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders  (Titus 1, 1 Tim 3)
  • A commitment to the life and mission of the church demonstrated through the commitments of membership (i.e. already is or is becoming a membership at Fellowship Raleigh)
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Proficient with tools and technologies necessary for this position (i.e. PCO, Google Drive, Canva, etc.) 

 

Student Ministry Responsibilities: 

 

Youth Ministry Specific:  

  • Leading Leaders – Lead the adult volunteer leaders (i.e. weekly communication, scheduling, 2-3 training gatherings per year, as-needed meetings to recruit and encourage)
  • Discipleship – Intentionally develop relationships with students outside of the Sunday night gathering (modeling this for other adult leaders)
  • Monday-Saturday Community – Implementing a strategy for community and discipleship of/with students outside of the program of Sunday nights (i.e. boys/girls nights, Bible studies, D-groups, etc.) 
  • Numbers – Praying to see growth from 15 to 30 students this year by welcoming more families at FR and engaging schools and communities near FR
  • Student Leaders – Identifying and developing Student Leaders through giving them real leadership responsibilities in the youth group (discussion leader, coordinator, etc.) 
  • Excellence – Ensure Excellence in all aspects of the Sunday night Youth Group Gathering (e.g., snacks (via parent rotation or other plan), games, musical worship, teaching or Bible Study in group format, small group discussion.)
  • Parent Communication – Partner with parents by communicating vision, content, and upcoming events with them through consistent communication and through conversations as needed. Utilize parents within the ministry in key ways- creating a sense of ownership among them.  

 

General: 

  • Assisting with occasional ministry tasks on Sundays (i.e. directly help with and help coordinate student rides, announcements, communion, baptism prep for a student)
  • The person who fills this position will begin as a “Director” but will be given the opportunity to develop as a leader on a path toward ordination, preaching, and Pastoral leadership.

 

Approximate Schedule (15 Hours):

 

Weekly: 

Sundays: 8:30am – 12:30pm – Attend both services at FR and seek to connect with youth. 

Sunday Evenings: 4:30pm – 8pm – Student Ministry (approx 3X per month) Meeting up with youth throughout the week for discipleship

Bi-Weekly: 

1st and 3rd Tuesday Staff Meeting: 12-2pm Check-in with Lead Pastor (or supervisor) for coaching 

Bi-Monthly/Occasional: 

  • Non-Sunday Youth Min Events such as: 
    • Fellowship/Hangout Events (mini-golf night, bowling, park outing)
    • Spiritually Enriching Events (Youth Camp/Conference, Prayer walk)
    • Service Events (Church serve day)
  • Trainings and relational coffees and meals with Youth Min leaders to build the team 
  • 3X per year ALL-CHURCH Members Meetings 6-8p on Sundays

Compensation: 

  • This part-time position will be paid by financial stipend of an amount to be discussed
  • There is an annual Student Ministry budget to cover most to all of the Youth Min related expenses
