Youth Ministry Intern
Job Overview
Midtown Youth is seeking an individual who will be entrusted with the every-day responsibilities of our middle school ministry. Through this role, the individual will also be discipled, developed, and given space to explore their gifts and calling towards vocational youth ministry in a safe, nurturing environment, within both the Youth staff and the larger Midtown movement.
This 2-Year Apprenticeship will involve ongoing feedback and coaching as well as formal quarterly reviews assessing the candidate’s performance and helping them consider their sense of vocational calling towards youth ministry. While continued employment at Midtown Fellowship beyond the Apprenticeship is not guaranteed, further opportunities will be assessed at the conclusion of Year 2 of the Apprenticeship.
Any given week, the Middle School Apprentice could be involved in the following:
- engaging in a 1-on-1 conversation with a male MS student about what following Jesus means
- meeting a Youth parent for coffee who wants to know more about Midtown Youth
- preparing paper materials for a Youth event
- preparing and leading a game for Sunday Youth group
- teaching/framing a passage of Scripture for a group of students and leaders
- coordinating volunteers for a Youth Family event
- brainstorming/troubleshooting the flow of Youth group on a Sunday
- coordinating the ordering and pickup of food for a Youth event
- reflecting on a Youth event with the Youth Directors to determine best practices moving forward
- coordinating a team of Youth leaders for setup or cleanup
Job Description
Functions & Responsibilities
- Partner with the Youth staff to offer relational/intentional/biblical care of male middle schoolers
- Serve faithfully alongside the Youth volunteer team as a middle school boys’ small group leader, participant in Midtown Youth camps and events, and all other volunteer leader responsibilities
- Execute assigned tasks as designed and delegated by the Executive Director (XD) & Assistant Director (AD) of Youth
- Participate in Youth Camp & Retreat planning/execution/evaluation under leadership of XD & AD
- Participate in weekly Youth Group & bi-monthly Youth Fellowship Night planning/execution/evaluation under leadership of XD & AD
- Create and execute setup/cleanup plans for all Youth events/camps/retreats
- Model/teach Youth core values & mission/vision statements
- Intentionally build relationships with middle school students & parents across the Midtown movement, but especially in the congregation you attend on Sundays
- Establish regular pathways of parent partnership in the work of student recruitment & discipleship
