Church Job Boards Compared: 8 Places to Find Ministry Jobs
Where church jobs actually get posted, what each board costs, and how to pick the right one — whether you're searching or hiring.
If you are looking for a church job, you have probably found that the openings are scattered. Some churches post to a national board, some only to their denomination, some to a seminary placement office, and plenty never post publicly at all. There is no single site that has everything, which means the realistic strategy is to know which two or three boards fit your situation and check those regularly.
This page is a straight comparison of the main options. We run Sola Jobs, so we have an obvious interest here — we have tried to be fair about where other boards are the better choice, because a comparison that only flatters us would not be much use to you.
The short version
| Board | Best for | Cost to post | Free to search? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sola Jobs | Bible-based churches; broad volume in one place | First listing free for 30 days, then $49/month | Yes |
| ChurchStaffing | Large general-market board; high listing volume | $269/month per posting; no free tier | Yes |
| Just Church Jobs | Broad evangelical listings across many roles | $250/month per posting (7-day trial caps at 3 applicants) | Yes |
| TGC | Churches aligned with The Gospel Coalition | Free for 90 days — Church Directory members only | Yes |
| Denominational boards | Roles that require your specific ordination or confession | Varies — often free to member churches | Usually |
| Seminary placement offices | Alumni and current students | Usually free to the church | Often alumni-only |
| Indeed / general boards | Administrative, facilities and school roles | Free to post; pay-per-click sponsorship to be seen | Yes |
Prices checked October 2026 from each board's own pricing page where one is published; ChurchStaffing does not publish pricing publicly, so that figure is the rate reported to us and third-party reviews list a similar $249 starting point. Boards change pricing often and some sell packages rather than single postings, so confirm directly before budgeting.
If you are searching for a job
You should not be paying to look. Every board in the table above is free for job seekers to browse. If a site asks you for a subscription to view ministry listings or to see who posted them, close the tab — that is not how this market works.
Check more than one board. The single biggest mistake candidates make is picking one site and assuming it is comprehensive. No church job board is. A church in your area may post only to its presbytery or state convention, and you will never see it on a national board.
Go denominational for ordained roles. If a position requires subscription to a particular confession or ordination within a specific body, that denomination's own channels are usually where it appears first, and sometimes the only place it appears. For Reformed and Presbyterian roles, see our guides to the PCA job board, the SBC, Acts 29 and TGC.
Do not skip the seminaries. Seminary placement offices carry openings that never reach a public board, because search committees often go to a trusted seminary first. Several are alumni-only, which is a real limitation, but if you are an alum it is among the least competitive places to look.
Use general boards for non-pastoral roles. Church administrator, facilities, bookkeeper and school positions genuinely do show up on Indeed in volume. For pastoral and ministry-specific roles, the signal-to-noise ratio on general boards is poor.
If you are a church hiring
The question is reach versus fit. A large general board will put your listing in front of the most people; a confessional board will put it in front of fewer people, more of whom can actually affirm your statement of faith. For a senior pastor search, fit usually matters more than raw volume — a hundred applications you have to screen out is worse than ten you would genuinely consider.
Most churches we talk to end up posting in two places: one broad board and one that matches their theological lane.
What posting actually costs
This is where the boards differ most, and the sticker price is not the whole story.
- Just Church Jobs advertises free posting, but in practice the price is $250/month per posting ($650 for three months). The free tier is a 7-day trial that caps at 3 applicants, requires a credit card, and can be used once every six months — enough to try the product, not enough to run a real search.
- TGC's board is free for 90 days per posting, but it is not open. Posts come from churches in TGC's Church Directory, so you have to be admitted to the directory first. If your church is already in it, this is the best value on the list; if not, that is the hurdle, not the price.
- ChurchStaffing has no free tier and runs about $269/month for a posting, with discounts for buying several months up front. It is the broadest general-market option, and the price reflects that reach.
- Denominational and seminary channels are usually free to member churches and alumni. For many congregations these are the cheapest effective option and the most overlooked.
- Indeed is free to post but pay-to-be-seen in practice; an unsponsored ministry listing tends to sink quickly.
- Sola Jobs is free for your first listing's first 30 days, then $49/month per listing.
Note that these are all monthly rates per posting, not one-off fees — a search that runs three months costs three times the sticker price. On the general-market boards that is roughly $750–$800 for a single opening. The two ways to avoid that are the free denominational and seminary channels, if your church qualifies, or a lower monthly rate.
Where Sola Jobs fits
We are the confessional option. Sola Jobs focuses on Reformed, Baptist and broadly confessional churches, and we aggregate openings from across that world — including churches that also post to TGC, 9Marks, Acts 29, Founders and the Reformed seminaries — so you can watch one feed instead of ten.
- Free to search, always. No account required to browse or view a listing.
- 4,000+ open listings across pastoral, worship, youth, administrative and school roles.
- For churches: your first job posting is free for 30 days, then $49/month. That is well below the typical general-market rate.
- Confessional focus, so candidates are not sifting through roles whose doctrinal requirements they could never meet.
Where we are not the right fit: if you are looking outside the Reformed and confessional world — a non-denominational megachurch role, say, or a mainline appointment — a broad board or that denomination's own channel will serve you better than we will. And if a position requires ordination in a body we do not focus on, start with that body.
The honest summary: no board has everything, so pick two or three that match your situation and check them weekly. If Reformed or confessional ministry is your lane, browse the open positions on Sola Jobs — it is free to search — or post a job if your church is hiring.
