Overview

The Assistant Pastor (AP) of Worship & Media utilizes his spiritual gifts and God-given abilities to lead the church in worship and to support the Elders and the Senior Pastor. The AP supports the mission of our church to love God according to his Word, love people by his grace, and make disciples for his glory. The AP reports directly to the Senior Pastor.

Role

The AP leads the congregation in corporate worship through prayer, music, and Scripture reading. The AP maintains a humble, teachable spirit and adapts to the changing needs of our congregation as determined by the Elders. The role may change over time given the development of new ministry opportunities and critical tasks. The AP will receive formal elder training.

The AP brings a cheerful attitude and offers a cooperative approach to the church staff, Senior Pastor, the Elders, and volunteers. The AP serves the church by facilitating musical worship, leading and building worship teams, and overseeing audio-visual and media aspects of worship and outreach. The AP demonstrates an aptitude for organization and excellence.

  • Musician: Plays piano (primary) and additional instruments (optional) at advanced level and can teach other musicians (vocal, choral, and instrumental).

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Can build teams and train leaders. Leads in pastoral care for all involved in worship ministry and other church members as assigned by the Elders. Enjoys people, working on a staff team and with volunteers, and serving other ministry areas for the sake of the gospel and the good of the church.
  • Sunday worship: Plans weekly Sunday worship with the Senior Pastor and leads corporate worship on most Sundays (eg, speaking, praying, reading Scripture). Pursues musical styles and song selections consistent with reformed doctrine and prioritizes congregational worship. Promotes worship with reverence, excellence, and joy. Able to teach and preach.
  • Worship team: Demonstrates a joyful heart for leading corporate worship. Recruits, trains, and oversees worship team volunteers. Plans regular worship team rehearsals to ensure appropriate levels of preparation. Ensures musical and technical excellence for worship team members and corporate worship. Communicates with and encourages team constantly.
  • A/V team: Oversees a/v team volunteers and technical aspects of worship such as the auditorium, music rooms, sound system, lights, PlanningCenter, ProPresenter, printed worship guides, and livestream. Manages related ministry budgets, effectively problem solves, and makes ongoing improvements.
  • Outreach: Manages the church's online presence, updating the website and social media weekly. Plans worship for Easter, Christmas, occasional concerts and worship events. In the future, may develop a tuition-based, Christian Fine Arts Academy, with paid instructors, to offer music education for our church and community.

Qualifications

  • Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder (1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) and maintains a humble, teachable spirit (James 4:6; Prov 9:9).
  • Holds at least a bachelor's degree with a master's degree preferred.
  • Possesses a minimum of five years of work experience in worship ministry.
  • Exhibits effective verbal, writing, and editorial skills in proficient English.
  • Has a humble spirit and a sense of humor that makes him a valued team player.
  • Has strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task; handle requests from multiple sources; and complete projects on time.
  • Shows a caring attitude, excellent people skills, integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to exercise strict discretion and confidentiality.

Schedule and Compensation

  • This is a full–time, salaried position up to fifty (50) hours per week with up to four (4) weeks of paid time off (PTO) after the first six months.
  • The compensation will be discussed during the hiring process and stated in an offer letter. The church provides health and retirement benefits with this position.
  • The AP must work in-person at the church on Sunday and in the office Monday through Thursday. He must attend weekly staff meetings in-person. The exact schedule will be determined with the Senior Pastor.
  • The AP must maintain a regular rhythm of rest and renewal. The office is closed on Fridays, and the AP is not expected to work. The AP must use his PTO every year. An eight-week sabbatical is available after five years of continuous service.
  • The AP must successfully pass a background check before his employment, and the church may perform additional checks during the AP's tenure.
  • The AP, and his family, are covenant members of MCC and expected to faithfully attend Sunday worship and actively contribute to the life of the church.

Physical Requirements

The AP works at the church facilities (12760 Birmingham Highway, Milton, GA 30004) and may sit for extended periods of time. The AP must be able to move small to medium sized boxes (up to 50 lbs) and walk up and down stairs. The AP must be able to place banners and yard signs outside.
