Associate Pastor for Discipleship
Job Overview
The primary responsibility of the Associate Pastor for Discipleship is the implementation of the vision of South Canyon Baptist Church (to make more and better disciples) with particular emphasis on Adult Discipleship and Missions. The Associate Pastor for Discipleship must be a servant leader with the ability to think strategically about SCBC's discipleship efforts, effectively organize and execute that strategy, and encourage members of SCBC to joyfully engage in those efforts. This position reports to the elders and the congregation and is supervised by the Lead Pastor.
Job Description
Pastor and Elder First and foremost, he is a pastor/shepherd to the entire SCBC congregation, therefore he must be: – A man who is genuinely converted to faith in Christ, called to pastoral ministry, and devoted to the Word and prayer – A man who is growing through the gospel in godliness, repentance, humility, reasonableness, and fruits of the Spirit. One who is tested and affirmed in the biblical qualifications of 1 Timothy and Titus – A man who is lovingly and wisely leading his home (wife and children if applicable) – A man who will disciple, care for, and counsel members, including marital and pre-marital counseling, officiate weddings and funerals – A man who will officiate in the ordinances of Baptism & Communion – A man who will teach, preach, and lead publicly – A man who will participate in a Life Group – A man who will faithfully participate in and contribute to leadership meetings, corporate gatherings, and church life in order to model and assist in building up God's church – A man who will cheerfully perform other pastoral duties and address problems or needs as they arise – A man who has demonstrated experience in discipleship ministry – A man with an M.Div or equivalent or is working toward such degree
Strategic Leader and Mobilizer in Discipleship and Missions While involved in shepherding the church as a whole, he will provide leadership in the following areas of church life and ministry. – Oversee SCBC Adult Classes and Bible Studies — Evaluate & approve content used in SCBC adult classes and Bible studies; equip and evaluate teachers and facilitators of adult classes and Bible studies – Oversee SCBC Life Groups — Train and support existing leaders and develop new leaders, connect members to groups, multiply groups, evaluate and address Life Groups' overall health and needs – Oversee SCBC Missions — Lead and equip the Mission Care Team (MCT) in their role to communicate with and care for our ministry partners, Equip and mobilize members for local outreach and short-term mission trips, lead in the evaluation of members pursuing missions and prospective ministry partners; develop church planting and/or church revitalization strategies.
