Description of Organization

Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church is a Reformed church that exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ, who worship God according to his Word, build up the saints in faith and life, and make Christ known to Kitsap County and beyond through our words and deeds, by the power of the Spirit, and for the glory of God.
Values: We seek to know the Triune God and make him known to others through the ministry of the Word, sacraments, prayer, reverent worship, fellowship, and personal witness to our neighbors. These are our priorities for the ministry of this church and for the planting of future churches.
Our Story: Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church (LBPC) began in 1976 as an outreach to Kitsap County in anticipation of a rapid influx of 20,000 residents due to military base expansion. Pastor Gerald Partain was called as the church planter and led the first members in community outreach and weekly Bible studies. In 1978, the current building was purchased and LBPC became a particular church in March 1979 with approximately 40 members. In 1985, Pastor Partain resigned and in 1986, Pastor Andrew Krasowski and his wife Nancy arrived, providing 34 years of faithful ministry. In 2020, Pastor Andy retired, and Pastor Patrick Severson arrived with his wife Anne and continues that tradition of faithful ministry with the hope of expanding that ministry in our region. Liberty Bay first engaged the community by providing a childcare facility and youth camps. We currently provide a Vacation Bible School during the summer and host community outreaches like Trail Life USA, American Heritage Girls, and Classical Conversations. We have enjoyed decades of excellent, quality preaching, a rigorous Sunday School curriculum, a love for youth, and a commitment to local and overseas missions. We support local mercy ministries in our region. Through the years, the congregation often fluctuated in size with the coming and going of military members or other job relocations, with a current attendance averaging 140. Some of the original members still call LBPC home.
Our City/County: Poulsbo was historically a Scandinavian fishing village but shifted to a more upscale local tourist waterfront destination located on the Kitsap Peninsula, across Puget Sound from downtown Seattle. Poulsbo is home to approximately 12,000 residents, and is surrounded by an additional 40,000-50,000 residents in adjacent communities and native American tribes. As Seattle continues to grow, commuters are moving to the peninsula to escape the busy and costly life of Seattle, bringing a contrast to this semi-rural county where friendly, hardworking, industrial, self-sufficient ideals are often mixed with temporary Navy families, and also elements of isolation, poverty, broken homes, and drug use, all under the banner of individualism. In short, we are located in an increasingly diverse and largely unchurched population where the truth of Christ's saving work is desperately needed.

Liberty Bay's Current Financial Condition: The church is debt-free. God has graciously blessed our congregation with cheerful giving to meet our financial needs, including remuneration for pastors, operations, and maintenance of the facility, as well as benevolence and missions. We have saved up enough to support an associate pastor for up to three years, with the hope that giving would increase as the ministry grows.
