Associate Pastor
Job Overview
Living Water is prayerfully seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to join our pastoral staff and serve alongside the Lead Pastor in shepherding and equipping our congregation. This role is ideal for a pastor with ministry experience who values team-based ministry, relational leadership, and multigenerational discipleship.
The Associate Pastor will participate broadly in pastoral ministry, with a particular focus on emerging generations (college students, young adults, and young families), while also engaging in pastoral care, teaching, discipleship development, and mission-oriented ministry across all life stages. The Associate Pastor will serve under the supervision of the Living Water Lead Pastor and work collaboratively within the larger Hanbit pastoral team.
Job Description
Responsibilities
Pastoral & Ministry Leadership
- Support and partner with the Living Water Lead Pastor in prayerfully discerning, planning, and implementing the vision and ministries of the congregation
- Participate in some preaching and teaching as scheduled and coordinated with the Lead Pastor
- Provide pastoral care, prayer, and shepherding to individuals and families in assigned life stages
- Give pastoral support to Servant Leaders, ministry teams, and Governing Board members
- Contribute as a healthy, humble, and collaborative member of the pastoral staff
- Be committed to faithful discipleship towards Christ and submit to healthy accountability with the pastors and elders of the church.
Discipleship & Generational Ministry
- Develop and support discipleship pathways that help members grow as faithful followers of Christ at every life stage
- Provide leadership and pastoral care for emerging generations (college & young adults), helping them integrate faith, vocation, and community life
- Support curriculum development, volunteer leadership, and ministry systems that encourage spiritual formation
Administrative & Team Support
- Assist with ministry-related administration, planning, budgeting, and event planning/coordination as needed
- Lead and oversee logistical and administrative functions to enhance external and internal communications of the church.
- Work collaboratively with staff, elders, deacons, and ministry leaders in a spirit of unity and mutual respect
Missions & Outreach
- Participate in and support Living Water's commitment to overseas medical missions, construction missions, refugee ministry, and local community outreach
- Participate in and serve collaborative ministries among local churches that Living Water is connected with.
- Help cultivate a missional heart within the congregation through teaching, participation, and leadership development
Experience and Qualifications
Required
- A committed disciple of Jesus Christ
- A clear calling for pastoral ministry and a deep-seated heart for youth ministry
- Graduate of an accredited seminary with a Master of Divinity degree.
- 1+ year of pastoral ministry experience
- Affirmation of Reformed theology, embrace Living Water's Statement of Faith, and learn/submit to the policies and practices of Hanbit Houston Pres. (lwmhouston.org/our-statement-of-faith)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with English fluency
Preferred
- 3+ years of ministry experience as an ordained pastor
- Strong understanding of the Korean immigrant church context; working fluency in the Korean language is a plus
- Proficiency in worship tech, MS Office programs, musical instruments, online worship setup and other transferable skill sets
- Experience with curriculum development, volunteer management, and team-based ministry
