As the founding church of the city, First Protestant Church is a city-oriented church, eager to make disciples, care for God's people in grace and truth, so that we can continue to be the spiritual home at the heart of the city. We are currently about 600 members.

Situated between San Antonio and Austin on I35, New Braunfels is experiencing a remarkable population boom, reflecting its appeal as a place to settle, raise a family, and be involved in a historic community. Known for its rich local culture, historic charm, and outdoor recreation, First Protestant is situated at the heart of downtown, offering a dynamic environment for outreach and growth.

About the Church:

Founded in 1845, First Protestant Church remains committed to fostering a healthy, vibrant congregation rooted in a high view of scripture and a spectrum of traditional and contemporary styles of worship. In 2024, our congregation voted to once again abide by the 1929 Evangelical Catechism, which fuels our conservative but big-tent Protestant style of teaching and belief.

Position Overview:

We seek a spiritually mature Associate Pastor who brings experience and yet is eager to grow in ministry as they assist the Senior Minister in bringing spiritual guidance to several ministry areas of the church community. This position is ideal for someone who loves the fellowship life of the church in its many expressions—choir & music ministry, short-term mission trips, men's/women's ministry, mentoring administrative & director-level staff, outreach to daycare parents, as well as occasional preaching and Bible study leadership. This position aims to cultivate, lead and mentor staff and the congregation to healthy congregational life, within broad Protestant doctrinal parameters. The position details will fit the gifting of the candidate.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: *Assist the Senior Minister in enhancing spiritual health in various ministry areas. *Serve on boards and leadership groups to encourage lay leadership and to enhance spiritual focus & depth of the congregation. *Lead and participate in liturgical leadership, occasional preaching, Bible study teaching, and prayer gatherings. *Foster a welcoming environment that encourages active participation and spiritual growth among all age groups. *Promote a church culture that values relational ministry, biblical truth, and community engagement.

Ideal Candidate: *Has a deep love for healthy, holistic congregational life across various ministry areas. *Demonstrates a genuine love for God's people as well as those who don't yet know God's grace. *Desires to grow and foster spiritual growth in others. *Is committed to the biblical doctrines articulated in the 1929 Evangelical Catechism. *Excels in building relationships, communicating effectively, and mentoring staff and volunteers. *Is flexible, creative, and eager to serve in a variety of ministry contexts.
