Job Description
Principal RoleThe primary role of the Associate Pastor of Student Ministry will be all aspects of the Student Ministry, including the planning, conducting, evaluating, and coordinating of the youth group and the middle school group programs. This role requires the person to be a spiritually mature and biblically grounded Christian who can connect with, lead, and equip students and adults for the works of ministry as well.
The secondary role of the Associate Pastor of Student Ministry will be to collaborate with the Children's Ministry Leader and the College Ministry leader to develop and maintain continuity from birth to college. He will maintain high-level supervision to both ministries (curriculum, budget, volunteers, facilities).
As an Associate Pastor, he will occasionally be asked to assist the pastor in all areas of ministry of the church including counseling, weddings, funerals, visitation, and pulpit supply.
The Associate Pastor will be responsible to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit of his own gifts and abilities as they benefit the church body. This person may have gifts and abilities that God has given for use in the kingdom that are not included in this job description. The Associate Pastor will be encouraged to develop these gifts as they benefit the ministry of El Bethel Baptist Church, although these other ministries should not detract from this job description.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, conduct, evaluate, and coordinate all aspects of the student ministry.Be available to the students and their families; Consider school involvement or involvement in students' lives outside of the church (games, concerts, etc.).Collaborate with and supervise the College Ministry and the Children's Ministry.Assist the senior pastor when needed in all facets of ministry (visitation, counseling, funerals, etc.)Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the senior pastor. Act as senior pastor as directed or in the absence of the senior pastor according to Personnel Structure.Attend all staff meetings and church council meetings. Attend other meetings as needed.Attend relevant seminars and conferences as time and resources allow. Through self-initiative, seek out opportunities for continuing education with the objective to stay on top of current trends and for the betterment of self. Attend all scheduled church services and business meetings or make arrangements for your coverage for excused absences.
Duties Specific to the role as Student PastorDevelop biblically grounded, age-appropriate programming for middle and high school students (weekly gatherings, retreats, missions, etc.).Create clear pathways for student spiritual formation (baptism, discipleship, leadership development).Direct, maintain, and work with a student ministry committee.Work with the Children's Ministry leader to recruit, train, and shepherd the volunteers within the Student and Children's Ministries. Prepare the annual budget for the needs of student ministry, and present to the budget and finance committee for review and approval. Give vision and direction to and collaborate with the Children's Ministry Leader and the College Ministry Leader in the planning and coordinating of the ministries for strong transitional programming.Evaluate all student, college, and children's programs on an annual basis.Communicate the maintenance or renovation needs of the education building/student ministry areas and equipment to the Deacons and appropriate committees to address.
QualificationsEspouse an unquestioned and vital commitment to Jesus as personal Savior and Lord.Understand and willing to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.Be thoroughly evangelical in faith, doctrine, and practice as understood by the Baptist Faith and Message.Demonstrate effectiveness in personal witness and in the implementation of an effective ministry.Have a personal character and lifestyle, family life, emotional and physical state of health that is acceptable in accordance with 1 Timothy 3.Possess strong motivational skills, a high level of organization, and an understanding of the diplomacy and flexibility when working in a church setting.Have a calling into pastoral ministry, especially to students at El Bethel Baptist Church.Have significant relational skills with students and parents.Ability to plan, organize, train, and supervise students and adults.Ability to provide Christian counsel to parents, students, and children on contemporary issues.Ability to recruit, train, and communicate to volunteers.Ability to use Planning Center and/or comparable software to stay relevant in a technology driven society.
Education/ExperienceCollege graduate and a degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent experience considered optimum. Experience in leading a variety of types of programs for students. Experience planning, organizing, training, and supervising students and adults.Education and experience commensurate with student ministry.
