Job Overview
Whitton Avenue Bible Church is seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to share in the pastoral leadership of a growing congregation committed to making disciples who declare and display the glory of King Jesus.
Working alongside the Lead Pastor and Elders, the Associate Pastor will shepherd the flock of God and participate in a shared leadership model within the plurality of elders.
Job Description
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
General Responsibilities
● Serve as an elder of the flock: shepherd, pray, teach, model godliness, practice oversight, etc.
● Minister the love of Christ to members, guests, and others in all interactions.
● Attend deacons meetings, elders meetings, and all church gatherings.
● Spend time in focused, unhurried prayer and Bible reading.
● Meet with church members for discipleship, pastoral care, and counseling.
● Study, prepare, and participate in the regular teaching/preaching rotation.
Youth Ministry Oversight
● Leadership: Lead and care for existing youth ministry leaders while actively recruiting and developing new volunteers.
● Programming: Oversee the Sunday morning youth gathering and execute at least one monthly "connection" event.
● Strategic Growth: Collaborate with the elders to develop a long-term expansion plan, potentially including mid-week gatherings, camps, and local church partnerships.
Local Missions Oversight
● Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic plan for engaging the immediate neighborhood surrounding the church building.
● Training: Equipping the congregation to share the gospel through consistent teaching, training, and celebration of outreach.
● Partnerships: Serve as the primary liaison for local partners (e.g., Hope Women's Center, Phoenix Rescue Mission, Grove Church Planting Network), facilitating prayer, giving, and service opportunities.
Small Group Ministry Oversight
● Advancement: Manage and advance the small group ministry, ensuring groups remain healthy and mission aligned.
● Support: Provide regular training, encouragement, and administrative support to current small group leaders.
● Expansion: Oversee the integration of new participants and the training of new leaders to facilitate the addition of new groups.
