Edgewood Baptist Church is seeking a bivocational Senior Pastor to provide spiritual leadership, preach God's Word, care for the congregation, and help lead the church in ministry to the community.Edgewood is a small Southern Baptist church in Winston-Salem, NC, with more than 100 years of faithful ministry. Because this is a bivocational role, the church understands the need for realistic expectations, shared ministry, and healthy boundaries.
Principal Function
The pastor serves as the spiritual leader and overseer of the church, providing leadership through preaching, teaching, pastoral care, worship leadership, administration, and equipping members for ministry.
Doctrinal Expectations
The pastor must:
- Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
- Affirm the authority of Scripture.
- Agree with The Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Be supportive of the Southern Baptist Convention in its work and ministries so long as they are Biblically aligned.
Responsibilities
The pastor will:
- Preach and teach the Bible faithfully.
- Proclaim the gospel and lead the church in sharing Christ with the community.
- Provide spiritual leadership and oversight for the congregation.
- Lead/coordinate worship services.
- Administer baptism and the Lord's Supper.
- Provide pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and encouragement as available.
- Conduct funerals, weddings, and other pastoral services as requested.
- Work with deacons, committees, staff, and ministry leaders.
- Serve as moderator of church business meetings.
- Offer counsel regarding church programs, ministries, staff, and leadership needs.
- Help equip church members for ministry and service.
- Encourage unity, prayer, discipleship, missions, and outreach.
Qualifications
The pastor should:
- Meet the biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership, including 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
- Demonstrate a clear calling to pastoral ministry.
- Possess strong preaching, teaching, and communication skills.
- Show humility, integrity, compassion, and spiritual maturity.
- Be able to work well with church leaders and members.
- Have ministry, preaching, or pastoral experience preferred.
- Be ordained, or willing to pursue ordination if called by the church.
- Be able to serve effectively in a bivocational role.
Education and Experience
Preferred:
- Biblical, theological, or ministry training from a college, seminary, Bible institute, or equivalent experience.
- Previous service in a Baptist or evangelical church setting.
Bivocational Expectations
This is a bivocational position. The church recognizes that the pastor may have employment outside the church. Schedule, office hours, compensation, vacation, pulpit supply, and availability will be discussed and agreed upon by the church and pastor.
