Job Description

About Highpoint

Highpoint Baptist Church is a historic congregation in Alexandria, Kentucky, with roots reaching back to the mid-1800s. For generations, the Lord has sustained this church as a faithful gospel witness in our community. Today, we remain a close-knit family of believers committed to glorifying God by loving Him wholeheartedly, loving others sacrificially, and fervently making disciples of all nations.

Our life together is shaped by Scripture and anchored in Christ-centered worship, prayer, and discipleship. We gather weekly for Sunday School, corporate worship, and prayer, seeking to grow in grace and obedience to God's Word.

Highpoint also has a heart for practical ministry and local outreach. The church supports and hosts ministries that serve a wide range of ages and needs, including children and teens, community care, and compassion-driven outreach such as a food pantry, shut-in ministry, bereavement ministry, Doors of Alexandria, Operation Christmas Child, and other opportunities to love our neighbors in tangible ways.

We are prayerfully seeking a pastor who will honor this legacy of faith while helping lead our church forward—strengthening biblical preaching and teaching, deepening discipleship, and encouraging gospel mission in Alexandria and beyond.

Biblical Qualifications

We affirm the pastoral qualifications outlined in Scripture and seek a man who embodies these traits with humility, maturity, and a growing walk with Christ.

Character and Conduct

  • Above reproach and blameless in personal life and public witness (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:6–7): The pastor's life should show consistent godliness so that no credible accusation of moral or spiritual hypocrisy can stick. This doesn't mean perfection, but a clear pattern of integrity that builds trust inside and outside the church.
  • Self-controlled, sober-minded, and disciplined (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8): He should demonstrate steady emotional and spiritual maturity, not being ruled by impulses, cravings, or moods. His decisions and lifestyle should reflect wisdom, restraint, and a submissive heart before God.
  • Respectable, upright, and holy (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8): His conduct should be honorable and worthy of imitation, marked by fairness toward others and devotion to God. People should recognize a seriousness about spiritual things and a life set apart for Christ.
  • Not quarrelsome, not overbearing, not quick-tempered (1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:7): He must not be harsh, domineering, or reactive, especially in conflict or disagreement. Instead, he should lead with patience, gentleness, and humility, seeking peace and restoration.
  • Not a lover of money; a wise steward (1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:7): He should not be motivated by personal gain or controlled by greed. Rather, he handles resources faithfully and transparently, modeling contentment and generosity.
  • Loving what is good and committed to truth (Titus 1:8–9): His heart and habits should lean toward righteousness, virtue, and what honors Christ. He should value truth deeply, resisting compromise and encouraging holiness in himself and others.

Family and Relational Faithfulness

Doctrine and Spiritual Leadership

  • Able to teach and communicate Scripture clearly (1 Tim. 3:2).
  • Holds firmly to sound doctrine and refutes error (Titus 1:9).
  • Shepherds willingly, eagerly, and without selfish gain (1 Peter 5:2–3).
  • Leads by example, not by domination (1 Peter 5:3).

We seek a pastor who continues to grow in grace and truth and whose life is marked by Christlike service.
