Role Summary
The Children's Minister exists to lead and shepherd our youngest disciples and their families by cultivating a thriving, gospel-centered Kids Ministry aligned with the mission and vision of New Hope Hermitage. This is a ministry leadership role responsible for building a disciple-making environment for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade while championing a family-ministry mindset that recognizes children as an active and vital part of the church now. You will also be responsible for giving oversight to pre-school ministry with the help of a children's ministry/preschool assistant to assist with executing programming.
This leader will help move the ministry from maintenance to intentional growth by strengthening volunteer culture, refining systems, and creating clear pathways for spiritual formation. The Children's Minister serves within our NOWgen framework (Preschool, Kids, Students), ensuring alignment and collaboration across generations.
Primary Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership & Teaching
Provide vision and leadership for a gospel-centered Kids Ministry rooted in Scripture and aligned with church doctrine and direction.Teach in Kids Church approximately three Sundays per month.Communicate biblical truth in engaging, age-appropriate, and spiritually formative ways.Partner with families in the discipleship of their children.
Contribute to broader church vision and ministry communication as needed.
Volunteer Leadership & Culture Development
Recruit, develop, and lead a growing team of Kids Ministry volunteers.Build and sustain a healthy, joy-filled volunteer culture marked by clarity, ownership, and mission alignment.Strengthen and refine ministry systems to support continued growth.Oversee Wednesday evening childcare contractors and special event staffing.
Authority & Leadership Structure
Reports directly to the Associate Pastor and ultimately to the Senior PastorExercises decision-making authority within Kids Ministry in alignment with church leadership and vision.Leads independently while collaborating effectively within a unified staff team.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3 years of church staff experience in a family or next-generation ministry context.Demonstrated experience leading and growing volunteer-driven ministries.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Bachelor's degree or further education preferred.Experience serving on staff in a church with a congregation of 500+ preferred.Doctrinal alignment with New Hope Hermitage required.
